Just doing a bit of research... We have a gangly 18hh 6yo that's taking up a lot of feeding. Where we've had hardly any grass he's not really bulked out enough. He's started coming in for a few hours a day/overnight for adlib hay, but is an incredibly slow eater so doesn't get much into him.
So, what do you feed your hunters?

It will be his age and size causing the issue. I would almost guarantee he is still growing and filling out. It can be so hard to get the calories for this type at this age even without the addition of hard work.

I ended up easing back on the work for mine, but I added calories, rather than bulk to hard feed - Micronsied linseed, a balancer, conditioning cubes and alfa a oil and some sort of beet

he needed adlib hay in the field and stable over winter - Haylege can be useful but it did make him a bit fizzy.

However he is now 11 and survives on hay, a balancer and small feed of basic pony nut and sugar beet. He sometimes even looks porky!

I've fed 17.2hh++ ID hunters for years. Most effective feed I've found is Equerry Conditioning Mash. You can feed as much as you need without them getting fizzy. It's very palatable and they can have it with warm water when they get back from hunting on a cold day!
Very occasionally I've needed more, and have given Spillers Conditioning Fibre, in a separate feed to the mash
