mush!! consisting of alpha a, fast fibre, sugar beet, alpha beet, horse and pony nuts, soaked oats, oil, blue chip, soaked 16+. and good grass. one is 30 one is32. both got cushions on prascend, one is sugar sensitive one isnt. am small feed, lunch mid sized feed, dinner large fibre based feed. the 32 yr old is still hacking a couple of times a week, the 30 yr old is retired. both shiny and well covered, bright in themselves and enjoying life. hay is always on offer but they struggle with it tho manage to consume about a wedge each per 24 hrs.
my 40 yr old has just started to look old this year.
this is the first year ive had to feed her differently from the others. she is now on two buckets a day-
1.5 kg fast fibre, 3kg veteran vitality, small scoop soaked sugarbeet, oil and salt. (split over two feeds) SLOP!! she loves it!
out at grass 24/7 and a small amount of hay for now.
he has lost most of her teeth, and the ones left are smooth. she can eat hay and grass... but does quid a lot! i have noticed a big difference since using fast fibre and veteran vitality.
my tb mare is a mere youngster in comparison to the ones above ^^^ she is only 23.
She is on 2 scoops of tob spec cool condition, top spec senior balancer, speedi beet, magnesium, and in summer naf oestress split between 2 feeds. It is low starch to keep her from being too fizzy lol and she is one of the shiniest horses I know. she is hacked most days.
My old horse when he was in his 20's was fed HiFi, leisure mix, pink powder and oil. He could suffer from ERS so he had to have low profile feeds. He also got haylage and grass.
He was ridden about 4 days a week up untill he died aged 26. I think it's important to keep them fit, mine came 6th in a 2ft9 two weeks before he died. It was like he knew it was his last show as he flew round having a whale of a time!
My 18yr old cob is a good doer in summer but can quickly drop weight in winter.
He currently on half scoop top chop lite chaff, 1 cup of lo-cal balancer am and pm and quarter of a large scoop of veteran vitality soaked (split vv between am and pm feed)
Also on joint supplement, devils relief and equine gold for digestion.
Also on grass all day and in at night with around 5-6kg of haylage and looks good on this diet.
Will up the veteran vitality and haylage in winter when less grass. Only has the vv in summer as seems to like having feeds with it mixed in rather than just the chaff and lo-cal.
I have a 28yo TBx and a 17yo TB.
The 17yo is a poor doer, has had problems with Gastric Ulcers in the past. He is having a break at the moment due to my pregnancy and seems to be enjoying it!
The 28yo, in the past, was a good doer, but I am finding it harder to keep his weight consistant. He is currently ridden twice a week, but will be joining the other one on his break int he next month or so.
Both horses are currently out 24/7 on fair-ish grazing, with 4 flaps hay between them at night and feeds consisting of Speedi Beet and Alfa A.
The 17yo has 1.5 Stubbs scoops Alfa A and 1 scoop soaked Beet, and the 28yo has 1 scoop Alfa A and 3/4 scoop of Beet.
I am trying to keep them out as long as possible this year- less work for me and it'll hopefully keep the 17yo's guts a bit more settled. They'll have adlib Haylage from beginning of Nov, although they don't guzzle it. I try to stick to giving them more Haylage before I increase bucket feed- but if I do need to increase this I'll probably add High Fibre cubes or Veteran Vitality.
They get a few differant supplements too- Superflex, Haylage Balancer (when eating haylage) and Garlic.
Pony is 20,and lives out 24/7.She is on good grazing and has 2 scoops of 16+ with a spoonful of devils claw. She is ridden for about 2 hours a day 6 days a week-mainly hacking. She looks and acts a lot younger and is very fit.
