What do you feed!!

What do you all feed you mares while they are still feeding baby and how many times a day do you feed. Also the amount you are giving?
Our little chap is now almost 4 weeks old and has now started to show interest in mums dinner as she hates to share with anyone we give him a small handful to have a mess around with, is this around the age they get interested.
 
I was waiting for replies to this too!
My filly is also 4 weeks old and has been nibbling out of Mum's bucket since her first week (not that Mum is so keen on the idea). We give her her own bucket but Mum eats most of that too!
My mare is a very sturdy Ardennes type and on advice this morning I am going to drop her morning feed as she has good grazing and looks a bit of a pudding.
She has been having a double handful of Alfa A with 3/4 scoop stud mix, sugar beet to mix and a scoop of Sure Limb twice a day.
 
Our mare went onto Baileys stud balancer three months before foaling, and stayed on that whilst feeding the foal. As a native cross, she didn't need the extra 'feed' from a stud mix, but the balancer gave her the nutrients required. The foal showed interest in food from day one and the stud balancer was okay for her to nibble on. She's now on D & H Suregrow.
 
I'm feeding suregrow. I did though her pregancy and she is onit now foaled just over a week ago. I was advised to up the amount i was giving her which i have done. But the feeds are split one in the morning and one at night. The foal has already started to eat her feed, the cheeky monkey.

1/4 scoop of alpha a oil
1/2 of cup full sunflowers seeds
Baileys stud balance

This she gets twice a day and was just wondering if this was enough OR not enough She is in fab condition weight wise and didnt want her dropping or gaining

Please don't let your foal eat the sugar beet - their hind gut does not have the ability to digest it at such a young age.

In answer to the OP, my mare is on Baileys Stud Balancer and Alfa A oil, plus some topspec super conditioning flakes.

If you stick to a stud balancer or mix then that should be fine for baby, but watch their intake as you do not want them getting any developmental disorders.

I was advised my a nutritionalist a few years ago NOT to feed chaff to foals and by extention mares with foals at foot, because it is harder for them to chew and swallow than the alfalfas and than hay/haylage.

B is fed on Alfa-A Oil, Suregrow, Soaked Oats in the morning in the field and at night (I bring them into feed at night no matter if they are staying in or out, for handling for M) she has as above + SB, sunflower seeds, karron oil, U-Guard Plus. The foal can’t reach this feed as it’s fed in a rubber door manger.
 
Mine get fed Saracen or D&H products - the quantities and particular feedstuffs vary according to the individual, but obviously as mentioned above it is very important that foals aren't overloaded with calories, whilst still ensuring they get sufficient micronutrients.

I tend not to let the foals have too much access to the mare's feed, and vice versa.
