I am in the process of changing Grace's feed to something more suitable for the work she is doing and the kind of temperment she has... I am still getting to know her really because when I took her on in October she had not been worked whereas now she is getting fitter.

I was just wondering what people on here had their horses on and why...

Each horse is so different....

But - the eventer gets fed Spillers slow release cubes, which works very well for her.

Ryu : Handfull of pasture mix and half a scoop of dengi hifi

(Hes fat but works hard so has a little tea)

Bails : 1/4 of Calm & Condition and half a scoop Hi Fi

(Hes skinny but gets hot easily so it took a while to get the correct balance)

Both get this once a day in summer and the same twice a day in winter along with top spec feed balancer which I introduce when they go on the winter grazing. Ryu had upto a half scoop of oats during the winter when he was hunting. My advice is keep it very simple.

I agree... I find it quite interesting hearing what others feed their horses! What I feed Hannah is so different to what I am now feeding Grace, although when I first took her on I gave her the same as Hannah because I wanted to see how she did with that before I went to buy something else.

I'd contact some nutritionists and ask their advice TBH. I currently feed my horse 1/2 scoop Baileys Endurance mix and 2 mugs of baileys Lo cal, 4 weeks ago she was on 3 scoops of that mix and oats, just had time off and come back tense and fizzy

Donkey is currently on a scoop of race horse mix, a scoop of Alfa A, a mug of sunflower seeds and a slurp of NAF liquid blood - and she is still a Donkey

Tomorrow I am moving her over (gradually) onto Low Cal balancer, tiger oats, sunflower seeds, Alfa A and trialing a new product from NAF for lazy horses (Equine Red Bull - or in my dreams speed

??)

Samp... I am not asking because I am changing her feed now, I have already done it but it just got me wondering what others have their horses on and why.

Grace was on Alfa A, TopSpec and Baileys Topline Mix but I was finding that she was very fizzy but then went flat very quickly when we were out competing. So I phoned Baileys and they recommended changing her to the Endurance Mix as it is slow release energy due to having less starch than the Topline Mix. So she is now in the process of changing her feed gradually, and then she will be on Alfa A and Endurance Mix in the summer, and depending on how she does in winter she may go back on the TopSpec when we go on limited grazing.

Last year he had pony nuts and tiger oats for eventing on. This year he has been working harder and until this week did not need anything bar grass. However he's been a bit quiet this week so is now back on pony nuts (half a scoop once a day). He did the winter on half a scoop of pony nuts and ad lib haylage too. I love this horse, costs me next to nothing to feed, unlike the last one, who cost me £40 a month

I found the tiger oats brilliant for meaning he wasn't stupid but also did not tire towards the end of the XC.

Both have a scoop of Safe & Sound and that's it.
I used to have Meg on a pasture mix, and have also tried oats, and a slow release competition mix, and none of them made any difference to her speed setting.
So I decided to take it back to basics, work on schooling, and have found she doesn't need anything else as she is in great condition, and has the stamina for what I need.
For example I did RC prelim dressage the other weekend when it was very hot, and we had a 7 mile hack home, which she managed in 1 hr 30 mins, and then she trotted down the field to her friends.

Well you know what my two get!! But here it is again:

Archie

8lbs Baileys No6 Endurance mix a day split into two feeds
handful of alfa-a oil in each feed

Blossy

2lbs Baileys stud balancer
handful of hi-fi good doer

Half a scoop of Allen and Page comp light mix, double handful of Alfa A Lite, Topspec and a splash of Soya oil for slow release energy and to support feet!!

not really, about £30 a month. Its actually the same as what it costs me to feed Blossy a month as her feed is more expensive.

And its the recommended amount by my Baileys nutritionist who i trust 100% as shes excellent!

I have one of my TB's on Winergy Elquilibrium feeds and I can't recommend them enought, she is on 4kg per day split into two feed (Growth and Senior), she is doing really well, ignore the names, they contain what she needs to gain weight, but not to cause her to tye up.......... My other two mares are on Winergy Low Energy and 3kg again split between two feeds, the old boy is on 4kg of Senior.... Am really please with the feed and it really does do my horses the world of good and also the help and advice I have had from Winergy (Effem Equine) has been brilliant.....Think I should go and work for them.....

I only feed really simple feeds, won't do mixes or anything like that.

They all at the moment have simple systems alfalfa (which unlike alfa a has no mollasses), with unmollased sugar beet, dried linseed and brewers yeast. So far this year nothing has needed more energy but if they do they either get oats or spillers hdf lay off cubes.

Started doing this when i was working for an event rider who runs all his from advanced to intro on this diet and they've never gone better!

2scoops spillers readigrass twice a day - according to my nutritionist it has the same amount of energy as a competition feed without the cereal and molasses (Which hes allergic to) and he loves it.
He also has winergy ventilate breathing supplement and equivite original supplement

Mine have grass in the summer & haylage in the winter. Nothing else apart from a bit of sugar beet & a handful of mix in winter if they've worked particularly hard

Both of mine are on grass with baileys low cal chaff when they are worked and come in in the day if they look thin/fat and have amout of hay accordingly. That does them fine

Mine is on:
double handful of hi fi
2 mugs of calm + conditon because it does exactly what it says
1 mug of sumo for condition because our field is pretty bare thanks to a great 18.2 giant that has now joined us
equimins hoof mender as he has typical TB feet
just started him on cortaflex because of the strain of eventing on his dainty legs!
half a scoop of alfa beet
Oh and hayledge adlib

Mine is on at the moment:
Handful of Hifi lite
Handful of Alfa A
1/2 scoop of Spillers Rapid Response Mix

Alfa a and Hifi lite is a bit of a strange combo I know. She gets this twice a day pluse NAF electro salts

She can be a lazy bugger when she wants to be and likes to put on weight just by looking at grass!

Mine gets 1 scoop HiFi lite, 3 mugs Bailey's Lo Cal balancer, and 1 mug tiger oats, and oil (divided between two feeds). He also gets Biotal Equine Gold and cortaflex. He's competition fit (for dressage, probably not quite for eventing) but a good doer and puts on weight easily.

Shadow has 1/2 scoop of hifi lite, 1/4 scoop of d&h performance concentrate, biotin, garlic and apples/carrots plus grass and ad-lib hay. She's a good doer so doesn't need much hard feed, just enough to give her enough energy without making her too fizzy.

My 14.2 is on 3 smallish scoops of calm and conditon and just under a big scoop of chaff twice a day as well and a full haynet of hay - yes I know that this is quite a lot [calm and condition expands a lot] but any less and he goes underweight.

Snoop has: Half scoop of D&H Staying Power slow release mix, carrots and jonit supplement. Hes ridden 6 days a week and has more than enough energy for ODE.

Mine are on:

Scoop of chaff
Scoop of D&H micro feed (hi energy)
Scoop of D&H country cubes

Supplements:
Brewers yeast (on sweet itch horse only)
Ready linseed
Performance herbs
