As many of you know, I had 'issues' with feeding at the end of spring (namely that YO told me he was getting adlib hayledge and being tunred out, and he wasnt, he was being pumped full of low quality hard feed in variable quantities)

So now my 17.3hh horse is being fed

Ad lib Hayledge (I give him a section of a big bale every evening and he has more in the morning before he goes out) as well as 6 hours grassy turnout a day

1/2 scoop conditioning cubes
3/4 scoop cool mix
1 scoop Alfaa with oil
Cider Vinegar
MSM/Glucosamine powder
1/4 oats

Twice daily

Please bare in mind that I am trying to get weight on him - he has had a slow couple of months but I want to pick his workload up now...do you think this is OK? Any tips?

And what do you feed your horses?

To be honest FF, I would simply tweak what you're already feeding by omitting the cool mix and upping the quantity of the condioning cubes.. Once you've got him at a good weight then simply cut back a little.

Lux(yearling newfie) simply gets oats and fibrebeet, plus cider vinegar....SWUO gets a handful of hifi to soak up the cider vinegar.

I'd switch the ratio of conditioning cubes with the cool mix (ie more conditioning cubes) but other than that can't fault it!

My horse would go nuts on the oats but if your's isn't then sounds like a sensible feeding plan to me. If he does go a bit mad try switching the mix for horse and pony nuts as they're lower in starch and therefore less heating. raising the conditioning cubes will help him build muscle as you increase his workload.

Beau, also 17.3hh, was v thin when I got him, so I was also feeding for weight gain, still on same diet to maintain it, he gets:

1 stubbs scoop hifi original
1 stubbs scopp TopSpec cool condition cubes
300g TopSpec Leisure Time feed balancer
Sunflower seeds
3 squirts garlic, parsley and linseed oil.

Twice a day.

That worked for him, we have really crap grazing at the mo and hay shortage too.

Grace is 17hh and needs feed to sustain her weight with the work she is doing...

Breakfast
1/2 stubbs scoop Dengie Alfa A
1 stubbs scoop Baileys Endurance Mix
15ml Flower of Sulphur powder

Dinner
1/2 stubbs scoop Dengie Alfa A]
1 stubbs scoop Baileys Endurance Mix
1 scoop garlic
1 scoop Cortaflex
1 scoop Formula4Feet
15ml Flower of Sulphur powder

She is fed adlib haylage at night (about 7kg) and is out in the day on a grass filled field. If in she has adlib haylage (again, about 7kg).

Lottie is a bit porky prob has 1/2 section of large Haylage a day and 6 - 12hrs turnout, 2 x handul chaff, 1/2 scoop baileys endurance mix, 3/4 scoop tiger oats and 2.5 mugs Baileys Lo cal and sunflower seeds

my 16:3h ID/TB is turned out 24/7 at the mo, on plenty of grass and gets half scoop pony nuts/ half spillers comp mix, 1 1/2 scoop alfafa , garlic, limestone powder, soya oil, carrots, my 14;2 h mare gets a handfull of alfafa and the supplements as she could survive on concrete!!

All have this split into 2 feeds a day

Sparky
1.5kg (1 stubbs scoop) of Pasture Mix
200g (mug) of Suregrow
Moody Mare
Unmollased chaff (handful)
100ml Soya Oil

Oscar
1.25kg (1 stubbs scoop) of Mare & Youngstock Mix
400g (2 mugs) of Suregrow
100ml Soya Oil

Bob
1.75kg (1 stubbs scoop) of Staypower Cubes
800g (3/4 stubbs scoop) of Barley rings
100ml Soya Oil

Right - I am going to swap the mix/conditioning cubes around...

Can someone tell me the benefits of Sunflower seeds?

I know he has put on weight but I want him to get more topline - he gets ridden enough, but just hasnt got any (though probably more than he had)

I understand that the black sunflower seeds are good for their coats and hooves, I've not tried it though.

George is 16.3 and about the right weight and is fed:
2 scoops of alfa a lite and 3 cups of baileys lo-cal (split into 2 feeds)
6 hours grazing on v.lush grass
3 sections of hay at night
3 handfuls of baileys economy cubes in his boredom ball
