What do you find annoying/rude out hunting?

QUOTE: but saying bout the red ribbin thing.. my pony has one when out hunting.. and when you go for a long gallop, and then stop and get caught in the middle of the field.. it can be sometime hard to get out of the way

Sorry no excuse, red ribbons should stay at the back of the field, end of, or you should be ULTRA aware of those around you and keep ponies arse angled away from everyone else - wearing a ribbon is NOT an excuse

all i was saying was when you go for a gallop and you stop and you try and get out of the way.. so your not in the way its hard when people won't let you! and still shove their horses heads up your pony's back end.. its easy to say you must stay at the back of field, but you try and do it... easier saidvthan done most of the time!

Oh dear having read this I don't think I will go hunting. Having never been before (I got lost trying to follow on foot) I was going to go to the newcomers meet next year. But maybe I shouldn't go all together. I have no idea what my cob will do but will take her on a fun ride to see what she does. I'm fairly sure I will have breaks, but not sure if she will kick out, so will keep her at the back and won't be jumping. Maybe its easier on everyone if I don't try hunting.

I can't abide all the ghastly plebs desperately trying to be toffs, when we all know they're lower middle-class. Yuck!
I totally agree! See plenty of that.
I adore hunting, but these days I really have had enough of the attitude and lack of manners in the field. It's not as good as it used to be.

Yep I have done it - I took an incredibly strong and loopy horse out hunting who kicks so I stayed dead at the back and when I realised he wouldnt settle like this I took him home as there is no way I will have my mount kick out and cause injury especially as he is known to lift a leg (actually has never kicked out with me, but lifting a leg is enough)

Sorry, its only my opinion - doesnt mean it is written in stone! Just think once you are aware your horse kicks it is up to you, and not others, to keep yourself out of trouble

Irishcobs no, please dont think like that - there is nothing better than seeing a newcomer out, grin on face, asking questions and being overawed by what is going on around them :-D Ask questions, they will be happily answered - the prob is when people think they know it all and dont, and STILL dont ask!

I agree, I'm always dead welcoming to newcomers, they are usually the ones that worry if they're in the wrong place e.t.c its some of the old seasoned fuddy duddies that are too busy sipping wisky mac than looking where there horse is going or what speed that we're moaning about!

if never been 'proper' hunting only mocking...but i was shocked to see the amount of people who decided it was clever to stand there horses near / ram and use as a buffer, horses with red ribbons! they are there for a reason and it was quite shocking to see peoples total disregard for them!! they would no doubt be up in arms if there horse got kicked would they not? so perhaps they should have the sense to keep a little distance instead of parking there horses head right up a kickers bum!!
although it is riders responsibility to not put a kicker in a situation where it might knock seven bells out of other horses - they have put a ribbon in there as a warning - hardly much point when a lot of people dont heed it

Well my pony kicks and that's caused by out of control people running into her - though mostly in arenas not out hunting. I make best attempts to keep her at the back - which is fine somewhere like Exmoor where there's wide open space, but in close country like round here, you can suddenly find yourself at the front if the whole pack has turned round and the whippers-in/hounds have come back through.

Having said that, my mare has never kicked anyone out hunting as I make great efforts to stick her bum in the hedge / away from other horses when we stop. I'd hate to be tarred with the same brush as others who let their horses kicks horses or hounds. I'd be mortified if she did.

What bugs me is people ramming us through gateways, squeezing past us down narrow tracks and generally running us off the track because we're smaller than they

I think when I first take the Murph out he will have both green and red ribbon - better to be safe than sorry on our first outing - do you just tie the ribbon round the plait or can you plait the ribbon in?
I think this post is going to TERRIFY most newcomers! Not me though Im made from stronger stuff and am determined to go terrified or not lol
I think the main thing is manners - do unto others only as you would have done to yourself! Ultimately I think the hunt needs as much support as it can get and if Im not wrong most hunts are more than welcoming to newbies - after all we have a shared interest whatever our abilities - we love horses :)

Go for it! I went for the 1st time on Saturday and loved it! I went on my own, asked complete strnagers questions and everyone couldn't have been more helpfull! Toff also kicks so I put a red ribbon and and kept near the back and didn't have a problem. I still can't believe how nice and welcoming everyone was and I well def. go again. I learnt a lot on the day which I didn't have a clue about (whip left?! lol!) but no one was horrible etc.

Crumbs don't get me started, i am a proper battle axe out hunting!

people who's horses kick, but make NO effort to keep thier bottoms out of other peoples way, i have seen 2 people have thier horses kicked (by the same person) this season & said person makes no effort in gate ways etc. having had a hunter with sharp back feet i a) ensure is bottom is always in a hedge etc if we stop, b) always wait at the back at gates were we are dawdling c) give him a hiding if he even lifts his feet (he soon learnt) but people that pat their horse & look pathetically at you drive me MAD

People who stop, churn the fence up & don't move out of the way

people who can't stop or make no effort to try

people who don't make an effort with turn out, neat & tidy costs nothing & a hairnet costs pence, if your numnah is the wrong colour at least tie your hair back & look like you care, rather than you are about to go round a SJ course (no offence to SJ's

people who pick boxing day as thier 1st day's hunting GRRRRRRRR.... pick a quiet meet when it doesn't matter as much if you get carted/dumped/stopped with etc, not a good day when regulars want a decent days sport... parading round a village surronded by people who can't stop/steer and try & get in every photographers picture are my idea of HELL.... i WISH they would realise how much more fun they'd have on a quieter saturday,

People who are generally rude & inconsiderate

Newcomers who INSIST on thrusting, it is (IMO) NOT the done thing, unless you are a guest of a subscriber IMO you should be considerate & allow subscribers to go 1st,

gate shutters who don't shut gates/think thier duty finishes at 2pm and 'disapear' i've managed to do a full day of gates on a psycotic pointer, so IMO there is no excuse (other than injury) for skiving off)

people who get someone else to do thier gates, but said person has no idea of what gates involves/has never been hunting before/can't stop etc, leaving other gateshutter to do all the gates

MEN who expect women (becasue they are on a smaller horse) to get off, fight with wire etc etc ....CHIVALRY???

Said i was a battle axe....grrrrrr!

Godd I really want to go hunting - it just sounds so much fun and traditional. And it wouldn't be a proper english thing without the DC alikes would it

Just need a horse now
