ive had this fella on loan since January and can safely say he is the best thing that has happened to me!
His owner is wonderful and is keen for me to do as much as I want with him.

Was feeling brave today and following on from our log/stick jumping last week thought i'd try some cross poles in our field. Any critiques etc on us would be great - sorry for the overload of pics!!

i'm no good at CC. i'm not observant enough

suppose you could do with keeping more of a contact and also looking up when going over the fence.

he's lovely. it's good that you're giving him lots of freedom over the jumps, but i think you should practise riding with shorter stirrups (at least 3 or 4 holes shorter) and practise jumping position, because it will make it easier for both of you, especially when the poles get a bit higher!
best of luck!

thats helpful thanks, as im reasonably new to all this I am keen to learn, should I have much shorter stirrups for jumping and then lenghthen them again for normal riding etc?

thanks

He's lovely - such a sweet face and it looks like you're both having fun.
Agree with shorter stirrups. In the photos it looks like you might be looking down - If you are try to look up ahead of you (says me who is always being told off for looking down

).

Good luck with him - I hope you have lots of happy times together.

You both look a great team together, and am sure you will have loads of fun on him.....keep at it.

Would agree with all other posts re: contact and stirrup length, but would also say to try and keep your weight down in your heel.

Have fun x

Oh how lovely, just wonderful to see someone trying out new things and having fun together. He looks like a wonderful chap. I hope it all continues well. Why don't you save up and reward you and him with a lesson and see where that takes you, it could all just go from strength to strength. Good luck to you both!

shorten your stirrups a few holes for jumping, also shorten your contact but just remember to give him his head when he takes off, keep your head up and look forward, keep working on your jumping position and have lots of fun! Good luck!

I'm crap at jumping so not the best person to give advice but if you shortened your stirrups a few holes you'd have a better position over the jump and ditto the suggestions to practice jumping position - make sure you can do it in w/t/c for (it's bloody hard let me tell you!!)

Also, it's good that you are not pulling on his mouth but I'd suggest taking more of a contact and then giving with your hands when you're going over the jump!

He's a stunning looking boy!!
