Breakfast on a hunting day is most important.

My personal preference, two lightly poached eggs on toast and two small cups of coffee.

Many people have expressed all sorts of opinions to me over the years, as to what one should eat and drink or not, as the case may be before getting on one's horse.

It's a much under discussed subject?

As folk will see I have started two other threads concerning, "what should be served to the whole Field for a Hunt Breakfast" and "what to carry with you for elevenis during the day."

Hula hoops (preferably beef ones),a few bars of chocolate and a generous slug of Port and Brandy!!

t´was a long time ago i was a hunting!!!

A new breakfast tip from Combat is to beat one egg with a handful of grated cheese, pour into a small ramekin and stick in microwave for 1 minute, toast an english muffin, tip the egg onto muffin and voila a filling McMuffin for brekkie.

My breakfasts vary according to time of year and what I am going to be doing.

I normally have scrambled eggs on toast before going out minkhunting as I won't get to eat until tea time. Too busy with hounds to stop and picnic!

As I usually hunt on a bicycle or my feet with the foxhounds then I need to eat loads for fuel. Tends to be a combo of toast, banana, cereals, and chocolate muffins depending on how much time I have. I was too keyed up to eat much on my two days mounted. Going to experiment with 'Oats so Simple' this season for a hot and quick porridge breakfast.

Nothing ! The first thing that usually hit s my stomach first is a glass of port , which is normally why Im sometimes half cut when we leave the meet ! lol I might try and eat some sausages/fruit cake at the meet. If i remember I ll try and stuff a small chocolate bar into my pocket for when Im hungry later.

Porridge with either carnation milk and sliced apple, or golden syrup. The perfect combination of filling, warming fibre, and sweetness and slow release energy

washed down with a cup or two of Yorkshire Tea. :)

Perfect for a Yorkshire born and bred chap darn sarff too :D

A pint of water by 8am then NO LIQUIDS SHALL PASS MY LIPS FOR THE REST OF THE HUNTING DAY. Can't bear wee stops, and the bladder ain't what it used to be!

To eat, a big bowl of porridge with banana, dried apricot, nuts and maple syrup at around 7am ish.
