What do you just HATE to see?

Overpampered horses. It's a horse, it won't shrink if it gets wet, it won't feel the cold in the same way that you do, so think before sticking a h/w turnout with full neck cover onto your fat horse in September!

Fat horses.

Fat dogs.

People who let their dogs come charging up to mine when he's on a lead - yes, he is friendly but how did you know that? Particularly people who let their little rat on a rope dogs charge up to Henry when he's on his lead, then growl / snap at him and run away

- No Hi-Viz, I understand it is a choice whether or not you wear it or not but if something happens it doesn't just effect you!
- People who think they know everything when they really know nothing.
- People who change vets because vet practice a told them their horse needs to be put down (said horse was pts) but said person has now changed to practice b - as they no longer like practice a for having their horse pts (for good reason).
- People who over feed but do not exercise the horse enough or allow for turnout and then complain they are uncontrollable.
- Drivers who really do not care about other road uses/riders.
- People decked out in jodhs and long boots to big horsey events.
- Over bitted horses/ponies getting dug in the ribs by a big pair of spurs.
- Riders who do not tie their hair up properly - especially when competing!
- People who blame their horses/other peoples horses for their downfalls.
- People who make out they are the best there is when they are not capable of the simplest things.
- People who over rug - have known 8+ to have been put on one horse most days.
- Riders not wearing hats when kids are around.
- People who feed my horses treats when I have both TOLD and ASKED them not to, I had to resort telling saying that one had a medical condition so was not allowed feeding anything other than grass no matter what - said horse was still offered handfuls of hard feed, carrots, etc

- People who leave the yard/school a mess
- People who leave their horse in the stable with the door wide open whilst they go to the other side of the yard to chat for half an hour but shout blue murder across the yard at the horse if it moves.
- People who act like yard rules do not apply to them.
- Drivers who do not use indicators and/or tail gate.
- Parents who cannot control their children and insist on shouting at them from the other end of the shop.
- Children who take their frustration out on their horses.
- Parents who stand at the side of the arena shouting at their children during the warm up.
- People with no manners who are either too arrogant/ignorant to pay attention to the rules in a warm up arena and insist on balling anyone who gets in their way even though they are in the wrong not the others.
- People who stable 27/7 whenever it rains.

I think I better leave it there

* People that can't accept that I use a mixture of NH and 'old style' horsemanship - I use what works for my horse at that time, get over it! I could care less about being 'pureist' - I'm sensible enough to pick and mix what works for us, not follow one route blindly. Of course, the trouble with that for them is that it cannot be labelled - I'm too 'NH' to be 'BHS' and too 'BHS' to be NH
grin.gif

* People that comment at great lengths about my horse being lame and not box-rested ( despite following vet's advice) and what an appalling owner that makes me, but will then moan about how my horse is box-walking, weaving and cribbing when having to be kept in for an hour longer in the mornings for a farrier's appointment ... this is why he's not on box-rest!

* People that moan that a 17hh gelding has a few pink things - do we really think he cares?!

* People that chose to ignore the fact that it has taken 15 months of blood, sweat, tears and expense to turn my 'dangerous' horse into a relatively safe, sane, mentally well adjusted horse and instead comment that 'they wish their horse was as easy' when they were the people that wrote him off in the first place but don't want to admit they need help with their own horse and that they are the problem, not their poor horse or are too lazy to put in the time to overcome problems that arise through lack of training.

* People that refuse to feed roughage and instead feed far too much cereal based feeds and then wonder why their horse is fat/sharp and or colic-prone through complete lack of roughage.

* People with un-clipped, hairy, good-doer cobs moaning that my thin, skinned, poor doer TB type horse doesn't need a rug because their horse isn't wearing one! In fact, this morning I was told 'he can gallop if he needs to keep warm ' - err, no he can't. He's in a small sectioned off piece of his field, to rest him whilst he is recovering from lameness - galloping to keep warm is the last thing he needs!

I think I shall stop there, before I get too carried away!

People who tie their horses up with the leadrope clipped to the bit - NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO! One day your horse will be scared by something and the poor sod will have no mouth left

ABSOLUTELY! You beat me to it.

Kids jumping onto their ponies and galloping and jumping them without warming them up properly. Also, when they approach jumps at ridiculous angles and then wonder why the pony refuses.

oww I feel the need for a real rant now
smirk.gif

- People who think they know better but are infact total novices and I have to politely whilst grimacing tell them to P*** off
- overweight riders riding horses or even ponies who can't carry their weight but expecting them to do 2hours + hard work and then wonder why the poor horse won't stand at the mounting block for them to get on!
- Bits especially harsher ones used incorrectly. For example a curb bit is a curb bit because it should be used in conjunction with a curb!!! If your horse doesn't like a curb use a different bit!
- People who don't return fences to the way they were. For example nice course of jumps put out in field all at about 2ft9 to suit majority of riders on yard. Lots of related distances and options so no actual need to move fences. Within a week half fences moved (ruining all related distances) most now on floor, cups moved etc etc.
- People who build then jump unsafe fences especially when altering them from safe alternatives. I.e. Ground lines under back bar of parallel!
- People who think their horse should only have a small amount of HAYLEDGE as it is borderline over weight so spends an hour eating then the rest of the evening kicking the s*** out of its stable as it has nothing to eat. Hay anyone!?!
-People who complain that their 4yo is so badly behaved and why couldn't they be like my horse. Hmm lets see your horse is 4 its going to have bad days, and yes mine is now relatively well behaved but when it was a 4yo it made yours look like a saint. So spend the time work on the issues and then it will behave.
- People who make up stupid see through excuses why they can't go hunting/competing instead of honestly saying they just don't want to. No one will think less of them. And if someone does they arn't worth speaking to!
- People who question why you don't want to hunt/compete
smirk.gif
No I will not hunt my horse as I know it will blow its brains and having spent 5 years calming its brain I don't wish to undo my hard work. And no I haven't done much competing on her recently as preferring nice sane horse who is enjoying its work and honestly can't afford it!
- People who over work their youngsters. Does your 3 year old really have to be worked 6 days a week (4/5 days ridden) for the last 2 months!? I think not...
- People who go to HOYs or similar and expect their horse to suddenly be able to perform flying changes/half pass/ jump 1m20 tracks etc the next day. Yes feel inspired but don't expect the ridiculous.
- novices who won't buy a nice safe cob type or similar because the dressage judges will mark it down. Hmmm hello you have never competed above unaffiliated prelim and are unlikely to do so soon, and a nice correctly working cob infront of a decent judge will score the same if not better than a flashy WB who is probably unbalanced. Instead buy firey 4yo wb as that all they can afford and wonder why they lose their confidence in 2 weeks straight then won't ride it!
- People that overfeed. No your horse does not need 4 different feeds plus 6 different supplements especially as only in light work!! It probably needs none of them!
- People who believe everything should be ridden in a snaffle. Yes it is ideal but much rather a stronger bit which allows a lighter rein contact and meaning the horse and rider feel safe!
- Flashes as 90% of the time they are fitted incorrectly. Actually add in most nosebands, If your horse needs its mouth strapped shut there is prob good reason which should be looked at rather than just taking easy option. (yes some do need them but very few and far between!)
- draw reins. yes again have uses but 98% of the time I see them used they are used wrongly. Jumping in them warrants the rider being dragged off their horse and burned at the stake
smirk.gif

And loads loads loads more but the above will more than do for now. owww I feel better for that rant

A silly little irratation from me....

No 1 - When out hunting and as usual my two mares are perfectly behaved and people always make passing remarks such as "Oh you are so lucky, I wish my horse was as good yours " whereas actually, it has taken a lot of time, schooling, instilling manners to do gates etc to make my mares so perfect at their job and if only those that commented would put in the same effort - they too would have easy horses to ride rather than prancing around on difficult horses that I am sure they are secretly hoping people are admiring their riding skills!

No 2 - people who think it is cruel to stable horses - if the weather is extreme my mares want to stay in their stables (even though they are exercised daily) and absolutely hate being out in a soggy wet, muddy field with no grass, with soggy wet, heavy rugs in the pouring rain and howling wind. As soon as you turn them out they are hanging around the gate wanting to come straight back in again - they love their stables! And, it is a damn sight easier for me to keep a clean, mud fever free horse fit and healthy in winter!

Weve had someone sharing a pony of ours and left our other three horses stuck in the stables while they hacked out for three or four hours, groomed, whatever leaving our horses in the stables for several hours with no food, water or bedding, i was having a private dig at them. When we did say they could kep the pony in at night they did a bed so small even our 12.2 wouldnt fit, i had to re do it! Utter idiots! Needless to say they dont ride the pony anymore. Our land is very well drained and they have shelter/rugs with ad lib hay so they are ok. Im not against stables just dont want our hardy native types stuck in when they shouldnt be!! These people thought it was cruel to leave the horses in fields and were not happy unless the horses were in! I on the other hand think it was cruel to leave my daughters then two year old shut in a stable without food/water or bed. Stables are ok used properly.

People who leave rubbish everywhere and don't clean up after themselves or their horses,
people who trot as fast has their horse can possibly go on the roads and then wonder why it has splints,
people who think I'm cruel for turning my horses out at night over the winter,
People who think if you own a horse you have to ride it every day or your a bad owner,
people who borrow and break your things or don't put them back,
people who use their mobile phone when riding on the roads,
people who insist that riding on the roads in rush hour in winter when it's dark is a good idea,
dog walkers who can't control their dogs,
people who think it's ok to trot or canter up to or past someone who is clearly having difficulty controlling their horse,
people who don't wear hi-viz or hats when hacking,
people who want to canter or gallop everywhere,
people who have their horse professionally schooled but wonder why it doesn't go as well for them when they never have lessons,
people who clip and feed competition mix even though their horse is only ridden once every two weeks.

Ok I think I'm done now

Spurs refine the leg aids of those who can actually ride.

Definitely should not be seen on those who are still at the 'pony club kick' stage. Plenty of examples can be seen in the lower levels of showjumping (and higher for that matter).

(And before you all rage, yes there is a time and a place for the PCK. Just not if you are wearing spurs!)

People who don't feel the need to wear hi viz/reflectives on both horse and rider.

People who do not pay attention to the road and do not acknowledge other road users.

People who make that stupid clicky noise when riding/leading, I will slap you!

People feeding titbits.

People letting their horse/pony drink straight from the main water supply, what the hell! thank you very much if your animal has something now all the others will get it!

I cringe when I watch people at shows load their horse into a trailer and tie it up before putting the back bar up. So many times I've seen the horse then try to back out before smacking it's head on the roof and throwing a wobbly.

I'm new to towing always had boxes before. How do you put the back bar up without first tying horse up, if you're on your own? Do you leave your horse loose whilst you go round and put the back bar up?

I can only comment on the whole "Dutch" experience

1. People who keep their horses stabled 24/7 in American Barn set ups. From October to April the horse walks from the inside stable, along the inside pathway to the inside school where it is worked for an hour then put back. Poor damn thing sees no daylight during the winter months.

2. When you ask why the above people do not let said horse out in the turn out paddock, they say it is too nervous and hates being outside.

3. Once we get the first rays of warm sunshine in April the above people will suddenly decide that they want to try hacking said horse out.....of course after being kept as a pit pony for 6 months said horse walks int the daylight and promptly explodes leaving said owner to exclaim "see I told everyone he was a lunatic outside".

A flash/grackle isn't to stop the horse going forward. They are to prevent the horse opening their mouth or crossing their jaw. So why not wear them with spurs???

[/ QUOTE ]

If the horse 'NEEDS' it fair enough, but come on.......

All these spoilt little brats just wear all the bling for fashion!
I brought Bear a grackle as we were having braking issues, but then I decided just to take him right back to basics and now he's back in his snaffle!
I can hunt in it too

I hate to see... a space in the corner of the tackroom where my broom is supposed to be.
... an empty bottle of fly spray where the one I brought 3 days ago is kept.
... my fence posts broken in a corner after someone has borrowed them (as I know they won't be replaced).

Hi everyone,

I have loved reading this thread! So many things that I 100% agree with!

My biggest HATE is at shows (it prob happens on yards but I keep my horses at my mums house) when I see a rider throw a complete strop and takes out their poor performance on the horse.

I have seen it time and time again where some stressed out, stroppy rider completely looses their rag because the horse stopped at a fence, or spooked and wasnt listening in the dressage etc etc

The horse gets yelled at, kicked, yanked about, or jumped off and rider strops off in a sulk....

GET OVER YOURSELF - use all the energy you spent having a pathetic childish tantrum and look at your own riding, practice, get some lessons, drop the attitude and work on making the experience a positive one for your horse...

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH god just thinking about it is making me fume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
