What are your must-have items for your horsebox?
What do people use for step and mounting block?
Any really great ideas to share?
Thanks very much

Spare girth, reins and stirrups. My stirrups don’t stay attached to my saddle so I swear I will forget them one day. First aid kit for me and the horse. A little skip with a lid, and rubber gloves for skipping the lorry out before the homeward journey and taking it home. A small grooming kit. Roadmap book just in case of diversions or satnav signal failure…

For steps I use these, they are not the tallest but enough for me to get on my 17hh horse. They are cheap, fold completely flat and fit in the locker I use for the water container.

I use the lorry steps as a mounting block, so there is one less thing to remember. I always have a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit for human and horse, a couple of spare rugs, thin and thick in case the weather changes, a waterproof exercise rug, tack cleaning stuff, and a couple of spare bits and bobs. Also some relflective/lit triangles in case of break down.

Many coats and waterproof trousers. Long dates snacks and drinks. I don’t use my body protector at home so that lives in there, with my competition jackets.
Deodorant and sanitary products, tooth brush and tooth paste, pen, tool kit, studs kit, hook up wires and adapters, spare fuses, bin bags. Exciting things..!

Apart from just about everything listed above
I have a large lidded clear plastic storage box. It is invaluable to hold all the bits and bobs that otherwise get lost or mixed up amongst other stuff. Or when you're in a rush to pack away.
Also a large huge cloth bag to cram wet stuff in after a ride in heavy rain.

i’ve got one of these in mine - i’ve got the usual bits and bobs, plus scissors. i keep a drirug mitt in there, plus a couple of towels chucked about.

i’ve got a grooming tote that holds less used/bigger things, bag of treats etc, and tack cleaning things under my saddle mate (don’t trust my saddle poles lol)

skip bucket & scoop live in the horse area as i only ever travel 1 at once, broom in the back with 2 buckets & a water container - i also have a dustpan & brush because there’s a little lip at the back that means i can’t sweep it out easily!

whip holder attached with command strips that has show whips plus a short one, jumping baton & schooling whip - i forget EVERYTHING so have doubles now😂

spare mesh cooler that will do the job for both of them, but it’s not been used since i put it in there lol. body protector lives in the luton with a couple of camping chairs.

show jacket lives in there usually but will be keeping it at home through winter so it doesn’t get musty, hairnets etc in the garment bag with it.

in the cab i keep water bottles, i’ve been meaning to get some long dated snacks too!

planning to add in some warmer rugs now it’s winter, and spare blankets/change of clothes etc - the 1 time i’ve broken down was thankfully on an equestrian centre car park, dead battery, but my word me and OH were freezing!

i also keep an emergency tube of sedalin in there, only had to use it on the aforementioned night as poor pony was stood on the box with fireworks going off not far away - gives me massive piece of mind having it with me.

i think that’s everything!

You would laugh about what my prime concerns in my lorry were. It had its own set of nice towels, Clinique travel size beauty products in the bathroom and nice shower gels and shampoo. I used to keep all my show gear in there, I had sets of saddle cloths, bridles, girths and my riding clothes with shoe hat and everything. When we went away the most important thing in the fridge was getting the ice switched on with wine and gin in the cupboards. All I ever had to do was load the horse and saddle (show rugs were kept in there too) and we were off. I do miss those days of staying away

I have a four drawer box in which I keep things competition gloves number holders, his veteran age badges, hoof pick, scissors, and random things like spare curb chain and shoe polish. A tool kit with adjustable spanner and spare lightbulbs stay in there along with WD-40 and various other useful things such as mechanics gloves . We keep some pieces of wood for levelling the lorry up if you’re parked on uneven ground. The steps I have all those folding steps, that a lot of people use in the show ring but I generally get on the ramp.

Always a bottle of bubbly in the fridge!
