Same as 4leggedfairies except my lids just slot on, they don't have the metal clips. These were about tenner each from B&Q but that might have been with our discount.
another one for plastic bins! Used to have a chest freezer that was fantastic but when I left the farm I couldnt take it, and when I returned back there it had been thrown away!
I use big white tubs from Ikea, they stack on top of each other and have a lift up flap at the front so they don't take up much space and I have easy access. They hold one large bag of nuts and a bag of fast fibre. I used to feed chaff and they usually held one bag between two if I squashed it in a bit.
i have 4 large metal bins- 4ft (h) x 3ft (d) x 4ft (w), 1 of which I use for my feed - fantastic as its rodent proof and i can lay my spare bags down and have my opened ones on top so i dotn have to lean over into it. I used to get about 20+ bags each time i went to the feed merchant and they all fitted in. Plus the one big takes us less room than half a dozen individual dust bins.
then for my carrots I have a plastic dust bin
I have a metal bin for the happy hoof but just leave alpha oil as it is. Have had this arrangement for over 2 years and never had a hole in a bag. I've seen the odd mouse about too (although cat keeps most of them away) - they must just not like the smell of it!
There is a massive chest freezer in my barn, it holds 14x 50lb sacks of feed at a time.
Brilliant, much better than a metal bin and very secure. It also doubles as my husbands work bench if he is in the barn, and the Vet's table for his instruments. When we had the mini gelded we were only half joking when we debated standing him on top of it!
think the chest freezer sounds like a good plan as i can keep my spare bag in there to and may be also get farm cats as we are riddled with mice at the farm
For ages I resisted using plastic or metal bins as I was taught that feed sweats in them.
However, since my beautiful hand made, wooden feed bins got in a bit of a bad way in the box moving yards, (so that the lids were no longer alined to close properly and keep mice out) then I have given in and bought plastic dustbins.
As I feed quite a few different different products, but don't ever need to fit any more than one or two bags in storage at one time, then it made sense and I am pleased with them
We do have pest control around the yard, but even so, I am confident that they are vermin proof
