What do you keep your soaked feed in?

Hi guys

I'm soon to have my very own tack room- Yay!!

So i'm slowly buying things to put in it - as a lot of the stuff i'm currently sharing with my partners mother..

So as above, what do you keep your soaked feeds in? Currently just using a flexi tub (water bucket) but wandered if there was something better.

What do you mean? As in soaking food?

I don't tend to store soaked food winter or summer, I soak what I need for the next feed if you see what I mean.

I soak speedibeet and alfalfa pellets together twice a day. Once in the evening for the morning and once in the morning for the evening. That way it stays fresh and reduce any chance of contamination. I use the tubs they are fed in and keep it covered.

I never soak anything for more than 12 hours. Not even hay.
 
The stuff we use (equibeat) or something is 24 hour minimum soak and we usually make a couple of days worth up as it lasts for 72 hours roughly..

But yes i meant what do you store it in when it's soaked :)

I just use old supplements tubs for soaking feed, also use them for bath time (keep sponges, shampoos etc in one and use it as my soapy bucket) one holds my drinking cups and tea/coffee at yard, one holds my padlocks etc that I take away to shows (to padlock trailer door/ramps so I don't have tack on view in the car) loads of uses! I wish I had more tubs!!!
 
As Tallyho says....I would not particularly want to store soaked feed....certainly not for 72 hours.
In the summer the heat will turn it very quickly.
I soak sugarbeet in a small wastebin with a lid. I make enough for the days feeds and thats it.

Won't be feeding in the summer - never do.. we have 25 acres here that we can graze our horses on so never run out of grass.
We were told that if the weathers cold (winter weather) the feed will be fine if used up within the 72 hours. Generally it's used in around 4 feeds (2 ams 2 pms).
 
I have read the title three times and each time my brain translated it as

"What do you keep your soaked FEET in?":confused::o

If I soak anything it is just in a bucket in the basement. I only soak enough for one feed at a time, I use hot water.
 
I use the old gold label supplement tubs for my equibeet, one tub is enough for one days feed so I just soak a tub full everyday, they are very good as it also has a lid and by soaking everyday it stays fresh.
 
I use a Dengie bucket with a lid that they were giving away at Your Horse Live (well, you paid a small sum for the bucket, some samples and a t-shirt). Use speedibeet so doesn't soak for long. How exciting to have your own tack room, space is seriously limited at the livery yard I'm at :)

Yes ponymum - it'll be luxury having spent the last year sharing with my other halfs mother and having my stuff basically moved around and only having half a shelf worth of space - :rolleyes: not sure she even realized!

Ha ha Enfys, that how I read it at first as well, must be an age/eyesight problem.

I also would only ever soak enough for one feed, whatever I'd been told.

Worked at an Arab stud years ago where they soaked enough sugar beet for days at a time. I have never seen so many flies in the barn, they were crawling over everything, yuk.
 
Crikey! Do you really have to soak equibeet for 24 hours?

Eww. I would be changing my beet!

In the coldest depths of winter I used to soak enough speedibeet for 4-5 days in one of those mini dustbin things with a lid. Only did it when it was really cold & it was always fine. Now I just soak day to day what I need.
 
standard black water bucket! In the summer I tip the empty feed bowls over the top to keep the flies away and maybe don't make as much up if not needed.
 
I use a plastic coolbox (like you would use for a picnic) and it's fabulous - no more frozen solid sugar beet in the winter. :D
