What do you need to be a successful horse owner?

I would say that all of the above are needed, but to be perfectly honest you could get away with nothing but money.......send someone to buy it, look after it, and ride it !!

I'm going to go with experience. You can have all the time in the world and still look after your horse very badly.

Money ? No, some people manage very well with little money.
Time ? It helps, but sometimes having more time means less focus.
Experience ? Not necessarily, some people remain ignorant after 20 years with horses..we've all met them.

Knowledge ? Yep.
- Out of everything on your list, I'd choose this one. Knowledge enables you to work effectively, not cause problems that have to be undone and save money by feeding and rugging only as necessary, not needing to buy every gadget on the market to compensate for lack of skill and pre empt the need for preventable health issues requiring time and money to treat.

A horse and somewhere to keep it :p
Patience
A sense of humour
Knowledge and experience - failing that, a willingness to ask questions and to learn

Knowledge and experience both come with time, money helps too, and can buy the others in some form or other to an extent :) (books, magazines, clinics, lessons - benefitting from the knowledge and experience of others etc, etc.)

The most important is having the knowledge to know that only a fool thinks that they know it all;)

Enthusiasm (to learn, improve, keep going etc)

A little enthusiasm goes a long way. Without that drive, why even bother having a horse?
