Have a quickly disappearing pile of my own pure Italian Ryegrass and buy in old meadow to mix with it for £2.50 a small bale (delivered, but as it's from next door, it hardly makes a difference).
£4 for a small bale. Although very good quality the bales have got so much smaller and more loosely packed then they were last year so its a complete rip off!
£4 for small bale of very nice organic hay delivered.
Was paying £2.50 last year for nice hay delivered but this year his yield is so slow he could only sell me 60 and that was because I have used him for so long.
I have prepaid for another 140 bales which hopefully get me through to next May.
We buy our hay from the farmer who runs the livery yard and this week a sign was posted with......as of today hay will be £6.10 a bale (small bales). I nearly cried!
Thats gone up from £3-25 for a small bale and my mare eats sooo much, almost half a bale a night and thats no exageration (she's a TB). It is decent quality and delivered right outside our stables each week but still think its alot. Can't find any cheaper at any of the feed merchants either
Well the last large rectangle bale I bought was £30, used to be £25, I got one for £45 a few weeks before from a different farmer and did not use him again!
So I am not sure how much it will be for the next bale.....prices could have gone up some more depending on supply and demand I suppose
£4/small bale direct from the farmer at the yard - he puts it all in the barn for me and its very good quality. The first time ever I haven't had to soak hay for her. I asked around for prices and hardly anyone does small bales anymore and non were cheaper than £4.
£2 a bale! we collected it off the field from the council.
Get in touch with your local council guys and ask to be put on the waiting list, they all have fields that they have to cut hay from to maintain them. Last year it was only £1 a bale but they didn't have as much this year.
I asked today and lady said they should not run out, though I am tempted to stock up as have four neds to keep fed , plus it would save having to go to the supplier whenever we need hay .
£40 for a round bale and £50 for a square bale.
When I first moved to the yard was told it was £25. I have 7 mouths to fed
Can find it cheaper but have to buy from YO until her supply has run out. Was not told this when I moved there
£55 for a MASSIVE square bale (equivalent of 16 small bales), £45 for a round bale or £4 for a small bale.
They are already on the yard, YM brings them down off the stack to order.
Seeing the prices others have posted I have concluded living in Oxford is rubbish!
£3.50 for a very heavy top quality small bale, I bought in 75 and have a further 175 on order for Dec to last til march. Also paid £3.50 for 50 very poor quality hay small bales which I grabbed quickly before I saw the good stuff, mores the pity. Hay prices are going to go through the roof in Northern Scotland if we continue to have this dreadful weather.
Its gonna cost me about £170 a month in hay at this rate.
My supplier has just put it up another £1 per bale to £5 per bale because he has heard that other people locally are getting that! I am going to be very careful with the amount I feed and try and bulk out with HiFi instead. Surely HiFi and similar products will import hay for their chaffs and the price should stay down ??
Bought mine in over the summer, £2.50 for basic bales, £4.00 for top quality meadow hay, and £30 delivered for haylage which lasts 3 horses 2 weeks, so good value for the money.
Did see an ad in the local paper this week for hay for sale at £5.90 a bale which is a bit steep for around here....
