What do you pay for hay??

I paid £3.50 for good quality hay in the autumn from a local farmer who also supplies the local equestrian college.

He's now raised his price to £4.50 per small bale, no extra charge for delivery (he comes about 7 miles).

A friend says she's seen good quality hay for sale locally for £3.50 though, so might suss that out. This presumably would be collected price not delivered.

£2 a bale! we collected it off the field from the council.
Get in touch with your local council guys and ask to be put on the waiting list, they all have fields that they have to cut hay from to maintain them. Last year it was only £1 a bale but they didn't have as much this year.

yeeess but Dooooo make sure you are happy that you are sure it has no ragwort in it, a lot of council cut hay is used for cattle and from past observation of our previous council they are none too fussy about not having great swathes of ragwort in it.....It might be fine but depends whether its been grown and harvested with horses in mind. If small bales thats more likely, big bales I would be more wary of.
