I have just posted a enquiry about e and l insurance because I am making a claim at the moment. The feed back about their reputation has surprised me enough to enquire about other ins companies. and what everyone pays.

Best thing to do is ask your vet for their recommendations as they know which companies are best at paying. I insure my mare with NFU and my pony with Petplan as he is classed as a veteran by NFU and would only get limited cover. I pay abou £30 month for each for death, vets fees and public liabilty. All depends what level of cover you need, value of horse and what activities you take part in

Oh yes, I suppose I should add that NFU were fantastic when I've needed to claim, no quibbles whatsoever even when I had to claim for death of a pony about two months after he'd had an operation to remove a chip of sesamoid bone from a joint.

KBIS are fab. I rang them up on Friday afternoon to tell them I had sold one of my ponies and on Saturday I received a cheque for part payment of the annual fee that I paid them a few months ago when I bought the pony. Their premium is very reasonable and I believe they are quick to pay out on claims.

Petplan are very good but expensive. NFU are fab and cheaper. I'm with Equestrian Direct and they have also been fab (had two big claims from them, no problems whatsoever).

NFU are good, I pay annually for my lot and can't remember how it breaks down but it's not too expensive and they adjust the cover to suit more than most companies do.

I use a company called AMTrust they usually beat all other horse insurance companies (except E&L for obvious reasons!!!) they are superb at paying up, as I said earlier, my husband is a Vet and finds them brilliant with his claims forms from clients too. I pay £195 per year for my old horse that is valued at £2000 inc my trailer and his tack up to £1500!! and then I pay £700 per year for my dressage horse valued at £8500 and that includes loss of use along with tack as above, vet fees £5k cover etc. really good company, you can find them on the web. I used to use NFU but I found AMTrust cheaper on price but equal in there professionalism.

SEIB were brilliant when my horse had surgery last year. They paid up immediately, including five days livery and nursing fees, and have been helpful and understanding to deal with. I can't recommend them more highly. Also they didn't exclude the whole leg like some companies would, but only the specific cause of the surgery (broken splint bone).

I found NFU to be the cheapest and lots of people here were very positive about them so Im with them

Another vote for AMTrust - I've got my WB insured with them and also got a really good price for my mare - I think they were offering the best deal at the time for the best price. Other than that I'd go for NFU as I've used them before

equestrain direct - highly recommend them as they are knowledge and most of all they payout without a fuss . Also and very important they don't slap stupid excussion on your next policy, so you can get excussion remove depending on what they are........ and you don't pay throught the nose for service..............

NFU are brilliant, I pay about £20 a month, horse valued at £1000, for loss of animal and vets fees, you also get emergency cover free (like if your stables burnt down and you needed to pay livery somewhere else or needed emergency transport.)

Thanks everyone will make sure everything is noted like I did last time, then hopefully I shouldnt have any problems.I will look into other companies at a later date.First things first get him through surgery which is stressful enough ,better to give him a chance than retire him.Six is too young to sit in a field and do nothing .Thanks for all your good wishes.
