what do you think about this horse?

Nice horse, big though? Good luck with your search, I'm off to try a chestnut tomorrow my neck of the woods! Its nerve wracking like trying to find a needle in a haystack heh?

Looks nice to me. Are you looking for a hunter? Sounds like that's mostly what he's done and that he has the ability to event and either a little or none competition experience. Worth finding out and going to see him though.

no I want something to do rc showjumping with. Hes done mostly hunting but not had him long. Something Im not sure of tbh but anyway arranged viewing this weekend. Would it put you off how long a horse has been owned?

Mattilda - will let you know what he's like if not suitable for me.

greymare - tell me about it. Its taking me ages to find a nice horse. Good luck with your search tomorrow.

Make sure you ask for the reason they are selling him and also, if you decide to buy him get him vetted and checked for splints, etc. They may say he has clean legs but lots of hunters don't and considering he has mainly hunted I would expect there to be a bit of wear and tear. I have known horses which have been described in their advert as having clean legs to have splints/swelling.

Yeah nice horse but she's not willing to come down on price much at all and I cant go to asking price. Im not too sure about horse given that shes only owned him 6 months but knows person who had him.

sjsuperstars - some good advice there thanks.

Why cant I just make a decision?

Coz its so hard to know what to believe and so many pifalls, like you I have traipsed miles trying and so often they are not as described or you just don't click. I always wonder when someone hasn't had a horse for long, notice only a man riding it so why not any of her riding? Have you googled her number she is she sells lots? The one i'm seeing tomorrow i originally called about a month ago, asked so many questions ahead of going felt a nuisance but seller fine with it and has been quite upfront on a couple of points she could have hidden but you just never know. Think you need to find out why he is for sale again? Best of luck

I think it seems like a nice horse in the advert at a reasonable price.
I wouldn't be too worried how long a horse had been owned as long as the owners were open about the reason e.g. too much for current ride/ moving area ect. I would definitely question them on it.

If you like it go and visit on several occassions/ different times of days/ little notice.

Always have it vetted & bloods taken. Wouldn't worry about splints, be very surprised if a 10 yr old hunter didn't have any tbh.
Good luck you will know if it's meant to be.

greymare - I will do some more digging on why he's for sale again. I also wondered why she isnt riding and a man is? She didnt mention that he's a strong horse. Its a nightmare horse hunting especially as Ive had 2 horses with problems that I wasnt aware of before I bought them so Im really wary.

Coen - she said she has one already and it interferes with her work. I will be checking legs.

Yes me too 2 wrong uns under my belt this year, almost lost confidence to make the decision, sadly totally empathise with you!!
