Hi all

would grately appreciate your thoughts, am buying a new horse and found one that i like the sound and look of, but i feel he's a bit overpriced (particularly in todays market), won't say what he's up for want to get your views (pretty please), he's 6 years old, coloured irish sports horse, decent breeding, done a tiny bit of everything but not much at all, nice paces, and nicely marked, clean limbed, and a nice sensible temp. What do you reckon ?

Hard to say really from the description. Done a bit of everything but not much at all - has he been competing? Or just SJ/XC schooling? How well schooled is he for 6? Good temperament and sensible counts for a lot IMO. I'll go on the basis of the not done much meaning not competing, on that basis i'd say around £3.5k.

Its hard to say, you haven't given too much info about him and without seeing him it makes it more difficult.

But personally, if he's as you have described, between 16hh-17hh, good on roads, healthy, up to date with vaccs, good to shoe etc etc then £2000/£2500?

I am a bit of a tight wad tho, I have known others to pay more :)

hi, yes sorry done a bit of everything at home, very little competing. i do believe he may have been hunted for a season before coming over from ireland

At 6 you are still buying potential, if he is smart, well started, showing promise, has a good temperament and will pass a vetting they can ask whatever they like, he is worth what someone is prepared to pay but the owners may rather keep and bring on than sell for a low price.
Anywhere from £2k to £5k possibly more if he shows real talent for the future.

My first thought was about £3-4k, I don't know if that's wildly off though! It depends hugely on the quality of the horse itself...it has good confirmation and lovely paces but hasn't done much then its still potentially worth more than a horse that's done everything but not very well!
It also depends on what you want the horse for...if you're looking to compete competitively at BE etc. then I'd want a 6 year old to have decent experience even if its only at unaffiliated level...it all depends on what you're looking for.

I'd be curious to know what price it actually is though :)

Without seeing a picture it's very hard, if he is attractive, well conformed and talented then you are looking at 4-5k however if he is average then you are looking more at 2.5-3k in my opinion.
