What do you think is a fair price per month for Muck removal?

I am 100% DIY and on my own, but do not have my own muck heap.

Therefore I have to use the YO's muck heap in the next door Livery Yard.

I (well my 2 neds

) accumulate approx 2 barrow loads of the stuff every day, on average.

So what would you be prepared/expect/guesstimate to pay monthly, to the YO for the disposal of it?

Thank you

Not sure I can specifically help but I have my horses at home and a farmer charges me £30 to take away my muckheaps which are about 18ft by 8ft by 5ft high as long as he can put it all in one trailer. It probably takes me about 4 months to fill it up with an wheelbarrow a day. Maybe you could think about going that route i.e having it at home and coming to an agreement with a local farmer (although I guess there is a good reason why you do it your way!) Does the yard have to pay someone to take it away or is it just left? If they pay then maybe if you can find out how much they pay and work out a sensible offer e.g £5 a month....?

I might have to go the route of my own muck heap, but I will have to approach my Landlord and I expect he will charge for it as well. for the space I am using, but there is not really anywhere suitable really

Your costs sounds very reasonable

I will not say, at this stage, what I have been quoted, as I want to see if anyone else has any costs which I can compare

Thank you for your response, much appreciated

Can't you bag it and sell it?

Just thinking that's about 2 hi-fi sacks a day your horses are producing there.

Or would the YO charge a commission on the muck for loss of income on ripping you off?

(I guess that's what you think she could be doing to you)

Hi, I pay £13 a month. I'm at a private yard & the YO simply divided the cost by the amount of horses. It came to £13 per month per horse.
Hopefully this should give you a fairly direct comparison.
It's a farmer who comes to collect with a big grab loader. he comes about once a month in the winter.

Well yesterday I was quoted £30 a month for my 2 barrow loads a day, on average, which at that point my jaw dropped

... even though I said to YO that it was 2 loads and not 4

This equates to 50p per barrow, which is 1 horse's hay ration a month

I spoke to her today and expained that it is 2 loads and we agreed on £15 a month

... I had £10 in my mind, but hey ho, she is running a business and taking all the hastle away from me

I think I am going to put a cork in both horse's 'bits' and save my money

... or not allow them anything to eat

Has the yard opened again now then?

Yes yard is all open, albeit work still in progress. Very shewd business woman, but very fair DIY at £25 a week though

I know that I have been very lucky, over the last 15 years and I always felt guilty that I did not pay, however, it was always a gentleman's agreement, when I moved there

So with £15 a month in mind, I have saved £2,700 by all accounts

I would put the poos in bags and give away / sell to gardeners, and then just put 1 barrow load on her muck heap (£7.50 a month?)

That's a good idea

... I feel my loads are being counted as I go round now
tongue.gif
.... I am even going to do a tally each day, just to make sure that I do not exceed my average

Our local farmer empties our muck trailer twice a week at £10/time
We have 17 horses in so it's quite economical really

I pay £90 a tractor trailer load, 2 or 3 times a year.

Do you mind me asking, how many horses you have?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have 4 horses stabled on rubber mats and Aquamax wood pellet bedding.

I take out on average 2 barrow loads a day.

my friend pays £30 for a trailer full to be removed, its a normal size old fashioned tipping trailer which goes behinda tractor. not a new great big massive thing.
