What do you think is an old horse

What the heck sort of stupid lunatic keeps anything, let alone a youngster, confined to a tiny space with too much food and not enough stimuli? Genuine question - where are you finding these people? How have their young horses not exploded from sheer boredom and killed them?

they are all over and have been for years (not the same ones, obviously ;) ). People start threads about keeping youngsters like this on here fairly regularly as well-and yeah, they do cause problems for their owners too, they are usually advertised as needing a (paying!*?!) sharer lol.

I have a 25 year old and she walks out with less stiffness than my 14 years old. recently she came out of comp retirement to win at a big show (smallish height though) she has changed my opinions on old horses. Equally though we have an 18 yr old at the yard who seems old because his owner treats him that way.

With mine she is treated the same as my other horses although I am really careful with warm up and cold down and she gets some extra supplements and feeds. what I really believe made the difference is living out for a lot of her life

I have an 18yr old appaloosa who is fit as a fiddle and jumps for fun, in fact I would say he is fitter and more forward going than my 8yr old!! 'Old' depends entirely on fitness levels! A 25yr old horse at the riding school I work at went xc last year and blew the competition out of the water. Been superbly fit his whole life!
