What do you think is the best fly rug for keeping horses cool in this hot weather or do you think fly rugs actually make them warmer? Before I splash out on another one I just wanted some advice, its not really for fly reasons its just that unfortunately my field has no shade and its so hot at the minute but dont want to put one on that makes him even hotter. Also if you are kind enough to make a suggestion would you let me know if they have roomy shoulders and are true to size I have a big boy and dont want to get the wrong size thanks!

Also I have had two different makes of rugs both or which have sliped to one side, its never a problem with his normal rugs is it just a fly rug thing?

Hi, I;m not sure that fly rugs keep horses cooler but I bought one in silver which reflects the sun, hopefully keeping him cooler!! The first fly rug I bought was a weatherbeeta but this slipped and was thight round shoulders. Now I have a Mark Todd one, its roomy round the shoulders and has an elastic insert near the withers so the hood stretches with the horses neck. It also has a bit that goes over the belly rather than a surcingle.

yeah read up on the prem equine fly rug i have one, think its great and if uv reflective so should do... better than leaving him i think as hes dark bay
