Hi All,

I am currently on the hunt for a youngster to take over from my lad when he retires in the next few years. I am looking for something between 2-4 but mostly unbacked so I can do the work myself. To make 16hh + and I'd like something with a bit more bone than a TB - to put it into perspective my lad is almost pure ID. I am an experienced owner and rider but mostly a happy hacker nowadays with the odd bit of Dressage, SJ, Hunting and showing thrown in, obvioudly with a younger model I would be more enclined to do more of the latter!

Anyway what do you guys think of these from what I have said above....

And has anyone seen anything advertised similar to what I have said above? looking no more than 2k.

Thanks!

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on conformation etc. as I buy all my horses based on gut feeling.
I don't like the first one, but I don't like Appaloosas particularly
The second girl has a lovely look about her (although I disagree with the advert there is NO way she is strong enough to be backed) - she does look to be built downhill - but I appreciate she could just be croup high due to growing. I would wonder what 'blemish' would cause such a drop in price.
I REALLY like the looking the 3rd chap, just my type. Not the best picture but looks a nice sort & seems to be built more uphill than the 2nd

none of them look to have much bone to me,

i am really not keen on the first but its the colour I really dont like so thats a very personal thing, also lack of bone

the second one looks lovely at first glance but again does not look to have much bone and she is quite heavy in the body

the third one has been backed and you wanted something to do yourself and even though she is older she really does look like she lacks bone

Thanks for the reply Guys.

Navaho I would certainly consider something younger and especially pure ID as that would be my ideal! Could you PM me?

Weirdly I dont like Appys as a rule but something struck out for me with him. I am concerned about the blemish of the bay but they say she is open to vetting (which i would do!) but she looks a little fine in the leg and the little grey is the one I like the best. As for leg confirmation - my lad on paper is shockingly put together, downhill, straight in the hock, pidgeon toed but at 19 he still hunts like a 4 hear old and is as sound as the day he was born so for the right temprement Id take that risk if they pass the vet.

Jools1234 -

All that seems to be up at the moment are TB's or they are going for totally silly money - I couldnt find anything heavier - the appy is the closest to the 'type' I have in mind but the others struck out at me.

I like the first, he looks quite a strong build for a 2 year old. The second is nice again, very pretty but nothing 'special'. Not keen on three, looks quite weak but has nice attractive looks...

Shame you dont want something younger, someone has reg ID foals for sale for £250!! Bonkers.

Whereabouts is this?!

I'm not about to rush out and buy one, just interested to see who would be selling those kinds of foals at that price;)

I will PM you both with a contact number, i dont know anything about the foals as they were advertised by a lady im friends with via Facebook. Oh & they are in Wales, but at that price i think you could afford to travel....they may well have already gone but its worth a call.

I like the appaloosa, he'd look stunning when he's matured and finished growing. A nice sturdy sort.

Ruby, not sure about the legs, maybe a vetting would tell you more about her capabilities.

The third one, again not sure as pictures aren't great.

Gingee86, I'm in the same position as you, looking for a youngster to bring on once my boy retires in the near future. Good luck in your search.

If you are used to the pure ID temperaments, buying a warmblood is going to be a big change for you.

None of the three are special in the conformation stakes. Have a look on the ID webpage, many studs will have youngstock for sale at this time of year.

first one I don't like .. not sure why have they have taken pics of him either with front feet higher than hinds or the other way round ??

second one ..first inpression is that the body is too big for the legs .. too little bone I would say

3rd one .. very difficult to say, but I don't like the 'back in ireland, turned away since imported and don't expect to see ridden' .. as someone already mentioned .. what is the trick the horse has ?

sorry, but I would keep looking if I were you
