What do you think of this 3.5 tonne box?

I'm surprised at these posts because in racing these types of conversions are regularly carrying racehorses worth £££££££ up and down the motorways without incident- they are becoming increasingly popular as all the lads can drive them. I'm sure that people wouldnt be risking their expensive/favourite racehorses if they were dangerous.

I am sure that there are some dodgy conversions out there, but some makes like Theault and George Smiths must be OK?
Yes a very diferent thing a new pro build costing say 25k+ and the racing yards will most likely lease new and keep for 4 years..
a big differece from a clapped out tradesmans van converted by a fella on the back of a farm yard like a lot of them...

I like it, it's a conversion by a well known company, so should be safe. I had an older Renault Master (m-reg) van conversion and was quite happy travelling my 600kg 16.1 Section D in it. At least with the van conversions, if they do leap over the breast bar then there's room for them to come out of the doors.

I now have an 04 plate coachbuilt Renault Master, but if a van conversion had come up for sale instead then that would've been fine too. All IMO of course :)

sadly there are good and bad builders converters of these renault masters, however i dont like the idea of the van conversions as a steel floor and horse pee not great for long life... its an expensive way of avoiding a hgv test they (3.5 ton lorrys) are poor value if you are on tight budget.. and wont have the longevity of a bigger proper
lorry and cost about the same to tax, insure and mot..

It is amazing the quality of the larger vehicles and the price compared to that of the 3.5tonners.... you can pick up a relativaly(sp) nice one for £7000 yet to get a decent 3.5tonner you are looking at 10k plus... but then cost of the parts, fuel, insurance etc is more hmmm it's swings and round abouts! Being only just 21 I have no choice but to drive a 3.5T other wise I would have to rely on my dad all the time and I can't be bothered to pay £1500 on an HGV test that I will probably fail and end up having to pay another £400 to re take :o

Id see if father christmas would help with your hgv test and lessons!!, seriously it is worth it if you intend to continue with horses as an adult and maybe would be a good thing to put on your CV....
