I have never really brought a project horse before, although I have had some naughty ones in my time!!! My eventer is having an op so out of work, i'm going to look at some loan horses next week as can't afford to buy myself something ready to go but was thinking about taking on a project horse (with a view to sell on if no good for eventing) to keep me busy over the summer whilst my horse is recovering.

Had a quick look and thought this looked quite sweet....would be grateful of some opinions though, as i am not the best on confo etc!

Thanks

Why on earth would you pay for an advert and put such rubbish pictures on it? You cant see his conformation properly.

Ask them to send you some better pictures if he is not near you. If he is go have a look, I just hate timewaster sellers. LOL!

A take that back they have vids. Will have a look, have looked and would like some pictures of him stood up straight

It will take you to the end of the summer just to get him fit. So if you want to sell him this year you will have a hard job.

I agree with kaylum- you cant tell much from those awful photos. Why dont you phone them and ask more about the horse?

Have just sent a message asking for some better pics. I will wait and see if i get a reply! Was going to ring up but just wanted to get some opinions first!!

I don't mind how long I keep the horse, just as long as it is salable at some point in the future if not suitable for me to keep! My mare will be out until dec and then in light work for the next few months so will have plenty of time!

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. In this day of digital cameras, there's simply no excuse for poor sales pics. I belong to another forum on which we have a recent thread that is some 20 pages long just of bad/silly/ridiculous sale pics.

It's especially mind-boggling when you find an advert with one horrible pic that shows nothing with the comment, "more pics available on request." Well, if you have more pics, couldn't you have found a better one to use for the ad?

Seems a pretty honest advert and he has a nice eye.
Havent looked at videos but def need to see his conformation, although I would not judge it on a photo, would need to see it in person.

No muscle on his, which is understandable.
Might be worth a look.

agree about the pants pics. I think he looks lovely, really kind looking horse. Needs building up and some decent muscle obviously, but i like him. Is he near you, why don't you go and have a look.

Think i will go and have a look, I thought he had a nice, kind look about him.

Not sure he's sound... looks short on the outside hind to me./QUOTE]

I think i need to see him in person, I would take my dressage trainer with me who is very experienced to make sure he was sound etc.

Think it's quite expensive as a 'project'. I'd be more inclined to go for something like this

Could probably get it for £500 and, providing the knees are ok then it looks nice. It's certainly fit just needs re-training as a riding horse so a couple of months then a start at normal riding work I'd say.

I think £2k's a lot to pay for a project to be honest.

I really like the look of him, I think its slightly suspicious he was broken so late but if he's just taken a long time to mature thats fair enough, once in work and muscled I think he'd make a fantastic horse. If Their advertising him for 2k then I suspect they'd take £1500, I'd def go and look.

Be very aware and suspicious tho, look for any signs of previous injury etc. as there may be a different reason he's been out of work or was broken late

He looks gorgeous, providing there are no obvious catches, and you can get him down a bit in price, I'd say go for it! He's going to grow a bit more though....there'll be a lot of horse by the time he's 8!

I'd reccomend www.donedeal.ie buy straight from Ireland-but then again I would say that being Irish!! But we do breed the best eventers in the world and most people sell their horses as 4 yr olds jus broken and riding. Ireland's only 350 miles long and a short ferry away...you're only a couple of hours from everywhere...I should work for the tourist board :D:D I'll stop now ;D
What kind of horse are you looking for? I have a 4 yr old ready to go

Just a thought (I may have missed something here so bear with me) if he is sold from field as he is no work at all at the moment - why then does it show him being re-backed Thursday night? If he can be bought in and worked a few days ago why can't you see him being ridden?

He looks lovely - I haven't watched vid as OH is standing next to me tapping foot as I asked to go food shopping and am now playing on here hence I may not be understanding the 'Thursday' night bit.
