Been dog sitting in jersey for my parents elderly Labrador, she's 15 and half and we've had her since I was 14.

After reading other threads on here it has opened my eyes to the contents of certain dog foods. So you can imagine my joy at finding mum is currently feed a mixture of bakers and pedigree chicken and rice

So I've been doing a bit of research as to what I can get in the way of decent dog food in jersey. Also she had quite a bad old dog cough which I didn't think the dry food was helping (she is also on medication for it ) so I've started mixing in a wet food - after trialing a few the James wellbeloved seemed to go down well - for a lab she can be very fussy!!

So the two best options I seem to have found are the JWB and another company I'd not heard reffered to before called barking heads. Has anybody come across this food before? From looking at composition it seemed ok but I'm no expert :o the website is barkingheads.co.uk

Sadly couldn't find any other good brands mentioned in here, it needs to be something easy for mum to buy or she won't swap and I can't see her going down the raw root.

I feed my jrt (Jelly) Barking Heads (bad hair day) after she lost a lot of condition on burns. She's only 4 however. I is an excellent food and Jelly likes it a lot and looks really shiny and healthy. Have in the past fed JWB but changed when I found out they were ownd by mars. I can't remember if the food was amazing or not. Hope that helps :-)

JWB is fine. If she's got to nearly 15 and is still going, I thinkis leave well alone (can't believe I'm saying that!) Are your parents still away? It's their dog, I'd not change anything unless they agreed, even if she is fed the worst food ever!

Nearly 16 ;)

She never used to be fed on bakers - I think mum just buys whats convient/value. She's a family dog, was my dog when I lived at home I used to do obedience, aglity and junior handlers with her but I moved to england and she stayed with my parents.

She was being very picky over just dry food and since adding a bit of the JWB wet food she's got much better - eats everything straight away rather than taking a look and then walking off and leaving it, plus her cough has been much better so maybe I'll suggest the just add a little of that to her food. She's been having it for about a week now with no ill affects

JWB and BH both good brands but I'd be a bit wary of changing with such an old dog.

I would agree that if she's got to that fine age then I wouldn't be looking to change an awful lot. However, I do think dogs appreciate some more 'meat like' food. Our oldie (15 as well) does not appreciate being fed dried food at all. Mind you, he'd prefer to eat a rotten rabbit than any dog food to be honest!!
