14.1hh skewbald mare, 13 years old.
Not a novice ride, yet I wouldn't call her unsafe - i've lept on her in the field just holding onto her mane.
She jumps like stink, and has masses of scope - clearing near 5 foot easily. Careful and fast in jump-offs, never out of the ribbons in show-jumping. Adores XC (done up to 3'3"), has done ODEs, PC camp, rallies and sponsored rides. She's snaffle mouthed for general activities, but can be strong sometimes and she gets on well in a pelham or dutch gag. She's easy to shoe/box but needs sedating to clip. Great with traffic and hacks alone/in company. She gets on well with other horses.
Good dressage potential - Lady who competes for Great Britain said she believes that she would make a wonderful dressage pony.

(don't have any conformational pics, sorry!)
Now the tough bit, she has been known to rear, and was really difficult the last time I went out hunting yet was a superstar her first time out.

How much do you think she's worth?
She's taught me so much - I bought her last March and was really nervous jumping - my first pony after a kick-on cob with arthritus. But she can also be bargy to lead, and since using a bridle to the field, she hasn't put a foot wrong since.

*Cookies if you've got this far

i would pay 2300....given that shes not a novice ride even tho shes 13, which is a let down as mums are always looking for a safe/genuine veteran....and given that shes only 14.1 i think that is generous.

Sounds very, very similar to mine - pain in the bum but amazing when actually working - rearing etc etc. I think would be difficult to sell really as its mainly kids looking for that size (I know) and parents don't want something difficult. I would say however about 3 k in the current market, but I would aim at adults instead looking for something fun.

Want to swop!?

I would love to, but i'm going to boarding school in September and really need to sell her before then

I'm only 14 myself, and have been riding 3 years.. I guess I owe most things to this mare as she's taught me so much..

What is she worth to you? My Fly is a [****]. He rears, bucks won't load, won't jump sometimes .... BUT he is Mine and to me he is priceless. xxxxxxxxxxx

She's worth the world to me

The thing is, watching classes at Bucks county last year, she could have easily done the 1.10 and would have had a chance at winning..
She's so fast, so careful and so loving..
And hasn't reared for months may I add..
And the leading 'problem' isn't essentially a problem.. And is heavily outweighed by her pros

What?! I reckon you'd get more like 4/5k for her... after all, she's a competition horse, and look stunning in her pics, seems to be able to turn her hoof to anything! The hunting problem is only a problem to osmeone who wants to hunt and i think oyu'll find a lot of horses get excited hunting, so for a mad keen pony club jockey it wont be a problem. She has scope, and done all pony club activities... so yeah, i'd say you'd get quite a bit for ehr.

mmmm. But those are all things which only an experienced rider will take on! Poor sausage - and maybe she would look good with no feathers.....

Can't you put her on loan or something or do you need the money from the sale?

Wouldn't she need an experienced rider anyway? Truth is, there are a lot of very, very good young pony club jockeys out there, and she just sounds perfect for someone like that to have fun on, hunting problems or not! I say advertise her on the pony club website, be honest, and see what people say - she'd make a cracking horse for a talented jockey, and could be just what someone is lookign for. As long as she's not nasty with her behaviour, then I think it's fine. And she's big enough to carry a larger jockey. It's a shame we're not looking for a horse, she's gorge!

I'd say the Pony Club website is very overlooked in terms of what you can find on there. We hit gold with our mare (a buy not a sale) but she did need a good jockey. Luckily I have just the thing and wouldn't part with her for a million.

I agree; it's a great place for buying and selling. Relatively cheap, and if the pony is genuinely a pony club pony then it's credentials can be checked out with a DC or team trainer; saved us from buying many a horse that would have been a nightmare! Also, if a pony club child turns up to try yours, you can check out their credentials too! Plus you will find some that are mad as hatters and keen to get on anything, so it's a good place to sell a tricky horse!

Sorry, I sold a 14.2hh coloured cob, very similar to yours except he was 7, fab paces, easy to do, amazing jumper, awesome out hunting in BIG derbyshire hedge country (and well known for it!!) 100% box shoe, clip, hack out etc, could occasionally be nappy but nothing major if ridden confidently, (never was with me but was with prevoious owner) and snaffle mouthed for 3k. I advertised him at £4750 and had 2 people come to look at him, but both wanted something flashier for their money.

Would say yours is worth realistically about 2-2.5k in todays market because of the age and not for novice ride.

Omg, really? What a bargain! I would happily pay at least 5k for that! I thought not novice ride is pretty much part and parcel of competition horses, which she is, a pony club competition horse. I think if you find the right people you'll be laughing. 2-2.5k seems like you're giving her away bless her heart! But then, what do I know, I always pay too much for horses

And KatB is deffo the coloured horse expert.

Unfortuantely on paper they can be worth alot more, but what they are really worth is as much as someone will pay for them

Because she has such a good PC record you would perhaps get a bit more for her...but depends if you have the right person there at the right time....

This was mine, I know he has a hackamore on, it wasnt for strength, just because he had had teeth pulled!

Hmm..
She's generally described as "very flashy" by proffessionals..
I've only shown her twice, where she was pulled in first both times, only for me (Dippy child) to cock up in the show..
She's never had anyone off since we've had her.. And my novicey mum rides her occasionally.. I guess the main reason I say she's not a novice ride is because I want her to go to a good little jockey who won't be terrified if she does something small..
Affiliated eventers and instructors have said "Oh my god, i have honestly never seen anything jump like that in my life, she's amazing!"

Hmm.
This is really helping guys, thanks

Getting my head around it now

i reckon 4K shes talented and quite alot of people these days wouldnt worry too much about a strong pony to lead and although the rearing can be dangerous, most people wont be put off!
