Don't hold back, any comments, nice or rude I don't mind (not me riding so don't comment on the rider please, although I won't get upset if you do!)

:D

this isnt another one of your *ahem* friends horses that you are "looking after" in your field according to a certain farrier is it?? :-D

Seems a nice sort, would like to see it lifting through it's back and engaging more rather than sinking and putting his nose in if that makes sense? Just seems a bit hollow and tight.

I like his expression though! Looks genuine :)

Yes he looks a bit tense in his neck, he needs to work more from behind thro his back, relax his neck and bring in from there. Although the right work to bring him together and engage is all that is needed. The rider needs to sit up more also.

just from those photos...

to me he looks very ordinary, not much reach to his stride, doesn't look like he is tracking up well behind and has weak conformation.

from those shots he would find it hard to 'sit' much more as he is built downhill and has a straight hindleg so hasn't got much more angle behind to coil up and power forwards from.

OMG how did you guess??? Yes, she is mine (sorry everyone it is a mare! Although due to the lack of penis I would have thought you'd have noticed :D).

She's only just started schooling so her topline is indeed rather weak, she finds it hard to stretch and loosen so far. I think she is pretty but agree with Millitiger that she is rather "ordinary" that is- nothing flashy about her, although there is of course nothing wrong with that!

Not sure that she needs any more "condition" though, she is covered just right for me, unless you just mean more topline? Canter work to start in next couple of days and then popping some x poles again.

Anyone else? I have some toffee popcorn?

I think she's looking good!

Just needs to relax and loosen up through her back and neck to really step through and soften more - she is not the flashiest horse but I think that would make all the difference and she would look like a really smart hunter/allrounder type.

She is really getting there though!

Agree lacking in condition so would expect her to muscle up more. I would also look at the saddle - it looks like it is too far forward.

Looks a sweetie but think there is a lot of work still to get her up to scratch!

How do you plan to get her to give up bucking :D My old gelding never gave up and was an absolute stinker - quite funny for those of us who could sit them but not for his new owners Mum who is regularly sitting on her bum in the middle whilst trying to keep him fit for her son......

Lovely looking mare and I am sure you will have loads of fun together. Enjoy x

Think these comments are slightly unfair (sorry millitiger) as it's distinctly probable that the rider is restricting the movement - looks tight and riding rather short which never encourages the back end to come through well.

If she (horse) was with me, I'd like her to work more round - little grids work wonders for slackening off tight backs too.

Agree that she doesn't need any more condition on her - if immature/just starting there's enough for her body to cope with rather than adding any extra weight for her to humph around! :)

Thanks K, it was pretty much her 4th day of schooling in 6 months so she's allowed to be a little stiff and unsure! Bless her, she does try. Good idea about the grids, will get her over a couple of x poles before though, just in case!

B- it isn't the one in the post that bucks, it's the little angel in my siggie- I intend to ride her through it and slap her on the arse when she tries it! (Yes has been checked by vet etc..)

Not sure why people are thinking she's lacking condition though? Topline she is lacking yes but she is at an ideal weight IMO, wouldn't want to see any horse fatter than that.

no need to apologise, we all have our own opinions :)

from those photos her conformation would, imo, restrict her from really sitting down behind- she will obviously improve with correct schooling but will never be an amazing mover.

would love to be proved wrong though and look forward to new photos in a few months :)
