Hi guys.

I'm still looking for a horse *sighs* but I've really been enjoying my loan horse, so there is no rush. I don't want to get one for the sake of it.

I've changed what I'm after as I've been riding a lot more again. Back to what I've originally wanted, which is a showjumper. As this is my favourite thing! I want to get out and have some fun at 1.20 mainly, but more would be good a little later. Everything I've seen is loads of money!

So. I came across this guy and wasn't sure, as it's obviously a dealer, but they deal cobs and happen to have a rather nice looking/bred Showjumper? What do you think of him?

I thought he looked well put together and has a nice shape over the fence. He's the perfect height and age I have been looking for. I like Greys and am a Warmblood person. So seems to tick a lot of boxes!

I also sent a quick message to them asking what level he is competing at and they said he's competed and placed at 1.20/1.30, loves his job, very genuine and forgiving.

The email came from Equestrian Imports, has anyone ever dealt with them? I've never been or brought from dealers before, so I'm sorry for all the questions!! :D

Also, how does it work with money on his card if he's been competing abroad and not in the UK?

*tea and cookies for you all*

He looks like a honest boy and well put together.
Regards his BS winnings, if you are able to get his full name from the dealer you can ring up the BS and they will tell you his winnings etc and can send you a print out, they will stay the same (I think).
However if he has no proof of identity then he will automatically become a grade A because of his age (horses with no proof of identity are graded upon their age).
If this is the case it may be a problem if you want to jump 1.20's as you'll have to enter all the open classes.
When buying our showjumper we asked for the show name and rang the BS and they were very helpful. It's worth doing.
go onto the BS website and read the rules regarding imported horses if this isnt very clear.
Lovely looking horse.good luck.

Thank you, that explains a lot. I will try and find out his name and investigate. If he has to be a grade A that could cause a couple of problems.

Yes i did wonder about his back end and wondered if it would improve with more work/muscle? But i really liked his strong front end.

Thank you for your replies.

On one of the photos his back end looks a bit out of proportion, but on the other two he looks quite a nice shape - so think its the angle of the photo. At the end of the day, he's managing to work and jump quite well with the shape he has, and you're not wanting a show horse. Definately worith a look - you will be able to tell better in the flesh. I'd definately try and find out his winnings.

Looks a nice sort - let us know how you go on...x

I agree with what Honey08 said.
Plus from my experience I've had 'friends' who showjumped and didn't really put that much into their horses flatwork...as long as they could go in a straight line, in a circle and over the big tracks it didn't seem to concern them! So perhaps with a little bit of schooling and hill work you could muscle that rear end up to match the front a bit more?
Either way, I think he looks like a sweetie :)

He looks lovely. Definately worth a bit of investigation and maybe a look.
Maybe slightly weak behind, but could just be the angle of the photo. Wouldn't discount him just for that though.

I think you'd need to look at his comp record to assess whether he's worth the money.

He's very straight through the hocks, and upright in front (and that will be a problem if you want a show jumper), but I actually quite like him (because he looks just like Thumper :o)

But - steep price tag, i'd say.

There is a lot to like about him.
If he is sound and jumps as well as they say then I think at 7K you would have a good deal.

I personally would proceed with caution though, for an 8yo jumping the tracks he is supposed to have yet not sold within his country and imported elsewhere I would want to do 2 things a) get his home country jumping record and b) x-rays by your own vet

Another poster raises a good point about what he will grade with for BSJA and how that might influence class eligibility

I did wonder about this?! I think I will have to do some digging before anything.

Also if he is as good as they say 7K seemed a little low, but if he is what they say thats great for me.

Thank you for all your replies everyone. It is really helping!
