What do you think of this horse

yes i do know what they say about the horses coming over here , they keep the good ones and send us the crap.
But there idea of crap might be of a higher standard than us.

Im no professional rider, its just a hobby in my spare time, I compete BSJA at local levels , hoping to get to around 1.20 in the future with , nothing to spectacular.

So bearing that in mind I dont need a superstar 9it would be wasted with me anyhow), just a honest horse i can enjoy and have fun on.

Op. I am sure you will have lots of fun with him. However, those of you that think that being a baby means its acceptable to be pulled into an over bent frame are wrong. Young horses need to be allowed to establish a rhythm in a free moving manner and establish suppleness over the back. Forcing the horse into a short overbent frame will ultimately restrict the paces and may cause long term problems. I would rather take on a youngster that has never been worked on the bit than one that is overbent as once they are ridden this way its hard to change

Thank you, you put it far better than me.

Amymay. Have first hand experience. My horse had been ridden in draw reins and over bent as a four year old. It made him loose the spring in his trot, made the canter tight and short and made his jump erratic as he was always tight and tense. It has taken five Years to gain the strength and confidence that will allow him to stretch and let go across his back. Will post a before and after pic in a min
He is still work in progress!

Lovely horse and if he is being sold by victoria he will be right to, he looks super, super jump and super breeding as for his ridden vids i feel the draw rein comments are a bit uncalled for (HHO are obsessed :p) these people produce many top quality young horses, he may be overbent but he is 4 and not yet established in his outline and way of going.

Best of luck keep us updated on his progress :D xx

I'm certainly not obsessed with draw reins - they are a very useful bit of kit.

Just posting my opinion on a publicly available video.

And whilst your comment about the vendor is reassuring for the OP, his age has nothing to do with his current way of going (or the way of going in the video).

pigsmights - Yes i think thats where he came from (but dont quote me on that as i may be wrong, but thats who seems to own you tube videos) , though thats not who i am buying him off, I am buying him of a dealer local to my area (NE scotland), he has been taken up here for sale . I think he is lovely and i have my fingers and toes crossed he passes vetting.
As for all the comments on draw reins etc, I cant comment i have never had a youngster before , but i am at a yard where there is professional people who can help me make sure he is brought on correctly and slowly.

He is a dude - im in love with him already..!

I too use draw reins but on a horse that had established its way of going and has gained the strength and suppleness to cope with them.
To prove what happens to horses that are ridden overbent as four yr olds here is my boy when I got him:

Its not just the way of going, its the whole muscle structure it affects. He still has a long way to go but he is getting better.

Amymay I did not direct that comment at anyone in particular and did not mean to offend u, I was just posting what I thought of the horse and that whilst he is overbent I don't think he goes appallingly. I'm sure that he will come right with time and work and he looks like a lovely young
horse.
All the best

He looks so much better, no longer tense or uncomfortable in his movement. The before photos are horrible, he is tight through his whole body, particularly his neck and doesn't look happy in the mouth area either. In the after photos his neck no longer looks like a tight ball of sinew anymore, and you can see how much more freely he is moving well done for bringing him round to a comfortable way of going.

Gosh, you didn't offend me.

And yes, with the right work - this horse will be a super star.

Charlie, said it before - that horse is just wonderful!!!!!!

Good luck OP, if you like the horse and have the money then it's not up to anyone else to question.

Charlies horse took 5 years, yet mine who I purchased in January took less than 6 months to undo the draw rein effect.

A good horse is a good horse. The rest is down to the training.
