What do you think of this horse??

What happened to your arab CW? Do you still have him?
Perrsonally I wouldnt bother going to see him, his conformation, the way he is bitted, his poor coat etc all add up to a horse kept deliberately poor as its a bit of a nutter well fed....

I think you could do a lot better with a budget of £3k. I know of a lovely 16.2hh 12 year old with BD and BSJA points that went for £2.5k a couple of weeks ago as the owner needed a quick sale. If that horse is anywhere near £3k I think I would give it a miss.

Personally I'm not keen on the horse - fairly poor conformation, a strong bit and poor condition - as others have said, who knows what the horse would end up like with proper work? It could end up quite nice, or it could end up being a nutter with physical problems.

Also I would ask for some decent photos before making a journey to see it, as those ones don't do the horse any favours, and you could have a wasted trip if the horse looks even worse in the flesh (been there, done that!)

She did her check ligament 2 years ago and being in her twenties decided not to bring her back into work so she is still with me but happily retired. :-)

Thanks for all the suggestions, think I will miss seeing him tomoz and be patient. Although I am not a patient kinda gal lol :-)

& I am looking for a 16.2hh+ as I am nearly 5ft11 and look hugmoungus on my sons 15.2hh and he does struggle to canter with me (or he is trying it on??!!) :-)

Will keep on looking but thanks guys, you have been a great help :-)

I've seen this horse advertised.

The dealer does buy from auction as well as part ex, buy from others etc.

It's not priced at £3k it's priced at £1,350.

Do let them know if you're not going to view :o)

Not sure if you had seen the video for the horse you were interested in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKFmptSEkAU < I think thats the same horse anyway could be wrong.

I am personally not sure of the dealer they look to have a good reputation and quick turnover of horses and happy customers or so it seems on there facebook page but also one of the ponies they had sold not long ago i had seen for sale with other people atleast 3-4 times before ending up at there yard i also know each time he was sold previous to them his price was alot less and inc all tack and then read yesterday another one they had, had been to 5 different homes in 3 months and had recently been sold by them again.

£3k is a decent budget, but someone has said that the horse is actually £1350 which is a more realistic price.

In my view, a horse will be far more quiet when it is poor and under muscled - it could (and likely will) be quite different when fit and well fed. If you are looking for something safe to hack around I really don't think this is the horse you need.

But it is, of course, totally up to you. If you look carefully you will easily find a horse for under £3k who will be a safe hack and pop round some show jumps without having to wait and find out if they are still sane when they are fit.

He looks like he is just asking to breakdown very early in his ridden career due to that conformation.. wouldn't touch with a bargepole tbh.

yep, my budget is 3k but will always look at the less priced first (3k incs. buying tack & rugs as well) lol :-) having watched the video though I'm probably not going to view & of course, I will let the dealer know. & now knowing that they buy from auction has put me off, I am quite capable of buying a neddie from auction & not paying a premium for them. I can see that he may well be a handful when he is back to his normal self. :-(

I always rush into buying a horse which is why I am stuck with the horse I have now, had I asked more questions I would never have bought him. xx

looking id say hes not in proper work . nothing there you couldnt put right with correct work and feeding if you buy please post a pic a couple of months down the line with good food and work im sure hel be totaly diffrent . is he an ex racer

He's not too bad, would do with a decent meal, though :) The dealer isn't a bad soul either. He's young, big and gangly (the horse that is, not the dealer ;)) in a year it will be a completely different picture. Also, I don't think you can actually judge his soundness from that video - the ground is uneven and slippery and the rider, although quiet, doesn't look particularly experienced or supportive. Go and see, me thinks.

I think people are always way too critical on this forum!! Prob put on a pic of a badminton winner and it would get slated. Yes horse is poor, conformation wise its very hard to tell from pictures especially rubbish pictures. I have bought both my horses from dealers, the first being my last mare who I had the 12 best years of my life with, She was poor when i got her and didnt have the best confo in world but never had days lameness in her life. Second one is my new girl who wasnt poor but could have looked better, Both have been completely as described. OP if you like the look of the horse go and have a look! :)

Sorry. Have to agree. Horse is not sound on the right rein. Made worse by the rider always being on the wrong diagonal. He also crabs up in right canter a couple of time's. Shame as He looks quite sweet. Went exactly how you Would expect under saddle from the still shots.

^^^^^^555555 to this .

Yes there are allot of critical people on this forum.

OP if you like him go view him in the flesh. Pictures dont always do horses justice.

Have to say I quite like him! I bought my horse as a walking skeleton exracer from the field so wasn't able to sit on, only trot him him up and assess conformation and temperament. Hard to assess conformation when a horse is poor, and mine was a lot poorer than this one. With time and effort, and 18 months on, he is doing extremely well at Prelim and we're training to progress further.
I think OP, you really have to work out what you want from this horse and what is your experience and confidence? He does look really quiet in the video but he is clearly underweight and under muscled, not sure how old he is? Just be realistic about what you want from the horse, the cheap price may seem attractive now but there are far more important things to consider such as 'are you capable of retraining him?'
When I bought mine, I was told he was so quiet (which I didn't take a lot of notice of as he really wasn't far off keeling over due to lack of weight). He is far from quiet now and although going very well, is far from a novice ride. Please just take your time and ask lots of questions!! Best of luck finding the right horse - he/she will be there!

I have had experience buying racers straight off the track & retraining. I think as I'm getting older & have had major back surgery I don't want to risk my health. I am going to pass on him as he looks like he will be major hard work during the winter and with my sensible head on, he would have to live out as I have no free stables atm and my grass will not last forever. My present loony neddie has my stable & he will not live out as he is such a wimp. Am going to contiune searching. I must attract horses with "issues" as fell in love with a 17hh ID & he has turned out to have sarcoids on his belly & an open wound on his leg (could be a cut off sarcoid) & they want £1750.00 no offers. :-(

Oh no!! Keep looking. If the weather starts to deteriorate as it did around this time last year, you might be grateful you haven't found one yet!

Yes, you are probably right lol :-) I so love my present neddie but to hack he is a nightmare & I love hacking, miss it so much. Also, love jumping & xc both of which he is unable to cope with. I just seem to attract neddies with "issues". I just want a nice simple kind horse - is that to much to ask??!! x

You don't attract the one with issues - clearly that is the type of horse you prefer. But in that case, don't be surprised if you don't get a horse with the temperament you want to hack and jump! There are 1000s of sensible horses in your price range - but if you don't truly want a horse like that, then you will never buy one.

hhmmpphh, you have a point, my head is screaming "safe, sane, sensible" but would I get bored??!! Nope, gonna stick to my guns & get a safe sane horse. The one I was going to see today is not an ISH but at TB ex racer so quite expensive at 1350.00 in the condition he is in & probably a dope on a rope as he feels so low. xx

I think he looks slightly poor at the moment, he may not be so quiet & well behaved once fed & muscled up properly.
Why has he ended up with the dealer? I would want to speak to his old owners.
Good luck

Go with an open mind!

have'nt read the other posts, by that photo he looks immature, he's only 6! still a baby, i quite like him, he looks like a nice hunter type, and i love slim horses! if you have the place to work him and ride regularly, i would consider him, and make your final judgement on how he feels when you ride him.

if he feels good when ridden then go for it, pick the horse you ENJOY riding the most, because that is what you are looking for.

Just a thought for you i took the plunge this year and bought a smaller slower version 15.1hh grey connie cross, my other one is a 16.1hh chesnut ISH with issues! I have never regretted it the pleasure of just going for a hack with no worries, going to a ode and completing with no stress. He still has character but is so quiet and straightforward.

He is only young and from a dealer so would look like a different horse in 6 months so I wouldn't be overly concerned about that but if you are looking for a safe horse I would be cautious with this.
A poor horse can have a total personality transplant when it is up to weight and feeling well, and at 6 it is likely to go through it's teenage stage too.
