What do you think of this horse?

Also prefer Max. Would still have a look at the other one too, as he definitely looks better in the moving pics than stood up. May have better conformation in the flesh, than the impression you get from the photos. Have you had a look at Prestwood farm, not bought from them, but always seemed to have a good reputation?

I have had horses with awful conformation that always stayed sound, and ones with goood confo that didn't. Go and have a look and if you like him, do a deal and have him. Your horse your decision.

Hmmm, this is confusing and makes me think that "good" conformation only means looking good to whoever decided what was "desirable" in the first place (and how closely a show judge might consider a horse to come to that "ideal"), and nothing to do with how well the individual equine's body is able to cope with the job asked of it...so who was it that decided what good looked like?!(if you get my drift!) Sorry for a little late night ramble!
Anyhoo, agree that if you like him so far and have confidence in the seller then definitely try him! And let us all know :)

SM - Good conformation is intrinsically linked to physical qualities that give a better chance of long term soundness, rather than an arbitrary ideal just for showing or aesthetic purposes.

I really don't like his conformation. He does have a lovely shoulder and that is as far as it goes. His back looks like it may have a tiny bit of muscle atrophy. He is camped out behind and his hocks look weak. He is also built downhill. His front legs have exceptionally long pasterns and are short in proportion to his hinds. His neck is short and poorly muscled. Sorry, but not a lot to like conformation wise, especially as they want £5k for him!

yes I agree with this thanks everyone for your help I have decided to not go and see this one as have a few niggles myself but will wait and see what else Julia has in after xmas xx

I'm rubbish at conformation but we have an oversized Connie on our yard bought a couple of months ago from Julia and so far he has been a fab little man. He came in quite lean and a bit under-muscled but is gradually building up - I think he is only 5 though.

Max who is for sale on this dealers website is the same photo that is on your photobucket?

Yes it is max I was going to ask h and h opinions of him in fact I did but could not share his photo. Then max disappeared from Julias website so I presumed sold. He then was back on about 8/9 days later so I presume he was sold and then returned to Julia as you get 7 days trial.

I always assume these posts are friends of the seller and just want more exposure of the ad. :)

Can see how you would think that but most of Julia's horses don't get put on the website they are sold before. She has so many clients all over the uk. I just like other peoples opinions if I am not quite sure.

If that were the case they would only put good types up, this one has too many faults :)

It is very much the case as my boy never made the website. He was in on the Wednesday and sold on the Saturday and Julia told me to keep ringing every week as new ones come in most weeks from Ireland, She has a excellent reputation-google her and see. Also friend of mine purchased a 15 hh mare that was about to go on the website but they bought her before!

I think he's a lot of money at present, he's obviously too big for a connemara to call him fully registered, as an overheight maybe but not as a 'competition connemara' as he should be no more than 148cm (14.2), however Templebready Fear Bui is producing some top class competition stock, for eventing etc. At his size he's going to take time maturing but I think he'd probably make a very useful sort for non showing activities.

Basically Agree with everything wagtail said!

But on the other hand, conformation isn't the be all & end all. He my have a temperament to die for......
