I have been asked to go with a friend to look at this pony tomorrow. She's completely none horsey and it's for her daughter to start pony clubbing on. Girl isn't even twelve but she's a cracking little rider so not worried about pony being too much for her. It's just that arabs (even part breds) aren't really my thing but each to their own. So what do you lot think cos I can't get past the arab thing when asked my opinion!

He sounds ok. He doesn't have a very good jump though in that pic.Looks to have almost thrown himself over at the last minute.I would definitely want to see him jump to get an idea of whether it was a one off or if he usually jumps like that

Looks sweet enough although rider's too heavy for it and not the best pictures either.
I personally wouldn't think it's suitable as a first pony especially if she has non-horsey parents; do you think daughter has swayed them because he looks flash?
You can only keep an open mind but give him a rigorous testing out; he might surprise you how genuine he is!

He also seems a bit dear to me.

No not a fan.. looks weak, might be quite abit stronger when build up, riders are not 12 years old, canter doesn't look settled and jump isn't exactly great, could be bad photos but they have chosen to use them. They say pony's done pc and rc but all the photos are at home which puts me off. I guess on plus side he's in a snaffle and no martingales and what not. Personally think you can do alot better for a first pony : )

Just to clarify, it's not really a first pony. She's had one on loan from the Blue Cross for the last 12 months or so, but she's completely out grown it in both size and ability. Unfortunately the Blue Cross has nothing else at the moment that's suitable so that's why they're looking to buy.

Not keen really for a 1st pony for a child with non-horsey parents. that canter photo is awful. He is obviously unhappy about something and swishing his tail and his head looks 'resistant'.

Find out what PC he's been with and ring the DC for info. they should be able to put you in touch with any instructors that have had him in their classes.

Not one for me I'm afraid.

*Gets ready to be shot down* I like the pony... Depends on the size of the rider I think, if she's small and likely to stay small then it will do her a while. Also it is quite flashy looking and depending on what she wants to do with it this may help. Pics are awful admittedly, looks like the jump is terrible but as we have seen on here in the past, bad pics don't mean the pony is bad. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions about what it's done etc. You will know better when you see it anyway and I guess it will be vetted in any case.

I do like fine ponies best actually so it is my opinion.... Oh, I do think it's maybe overpriced as it looks green but I'm sure you can negotiate.

*ducks and runs away*

Another one who is a "not for me". The main reason is that he is clearly not muscled up well/in proper work so what you see today may not be the same as what you have when the same pony is feeling well and fit. And agree that the jumping picture is exceptionally poor for a pony who is supposed to excel at this!

I think hes over priced..

Looks strong in canter and don't like his jumping. He could be genuine and just be not good photos. But looks like he still needs abit of work.. probs not suitable for a 12 year old. If its not far to go probably worth a look.

I actually have a 14.1hh welsh x arab, who is very opinated!

i kinda like it, it has something about it. I certainly wouldn't be paying 2500 for it but i think its worth a look and a rigourous road test. Jumping pic is terrible but as someone said rider is way to big/heavy. Pics would have looked better if they had brushed it! if its close enough for you no harm in looking.

Thing is, it all depends on how it performs in the flesh to see how much it's worth- if it is fantastic, super, jumps the moon then it's worth 2.5k easy. However, if it's as green as it looks I'd say around the £1750 mark. If it hacks on the road alone and is quiet to handle for a child then it's worth more as the parents will be secure in the knowledge that their child is safe even if it can't jump well etc and so you might not get it for less as someone with a less competitive child might snap it up! Really hard to say, come back and tell us when you've tried it!

I don't know whereabouts you are as that plays a part but around here, £1200 tops unless it is a paragon of virtue, totally safe, in which case it will be worth its weight in gold for a parent.

I actually really like this pony. I am an arab fan (unlike a lot of posters it seems!) and this is a fairly good example of the type. I think he will be a fab pony, that canter photo shows he is naturally uphill and carries himself well, yes prehaps a bit tense there but with correct work that canter will be fabulous. I agree that jumping photo is terrible but in fairness the jump is tiny, so pony is hardly going to make a great shape over it. He is only young so with a little work I'm sure he will be a good jumper. He is very pretty and looks like an allround fun pony. I think he is definately worth a look.

I actually quite like this pony too although photos seem a bit fishy as the rider is different for the 'action' shots & looks like they sat a young rider on him for the main photo.

Definitely think you should go and see him though :) Will be interesting to hear what you think he's like in the flesh.

Ok, so the photos aren't great, but the description sounds ideal. Round here, particularly if he is registered, he is priced fairly. He is after all 14.1 and advertised as push button but still able to do all PC disciplines. Surely, 2.5k is reasonable for a pretty, reliable, genuine pony club pony? He does look uncomfortable in the mouth in the canter shot, he is wearing a flash and does he really need it? They can annoy a horse, especially if they're not used to it. Palomino arabs are definately a love/hate kinda horse and not my thing at all, but worth a look I should think.
