what do you think of this saddle?

TBH if it were me I'd look out for a 2nd hand Thorowgood or Wintec rather than a new unknown synthetic. Thorowgoods are guaranteed for 10 years so even 2nd hand it will have alot of life left in it, I love my T4 Cob saddle and even though it's 2 years old and had alot of hard work it cleans up well.

T4 cob saddle sounds good - knew to cob items! i have a TB who is as narrow as they come!
Little cob has a back like a table!! i think she will be an extra wide :D

I got one of these....in a XW...for our highland. I thought at the price if it was rubbish it wasn't too much to lose.

Actually- its fits his table-back perfectly, didn't need adjusting and looks really smart. The more its used and oiled obviously the better it looks- I've done showing classes in in too.

I was very impressed.....

Best thing is the adjustable gullet...honestly so far this year I've change mine from Wide to X-wide to XX-wide and back to X-wide with the fish in!!!! It just makes it so much easier knowing I don't have to worry about the saddle...although I do admit I have a treeless I use for hacking because nothing fits him like his treeless does and he's more relaxed in it but useless to jump in!! So spoilt boy has 2 saddles!!!

NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Do NOT get one of those hidious rhinegold saddles. If you'd seen inside them you'd know why!

The tree is made of old sawn-up wooden pallets with any old strips of metal hammerd on as a 'spring' tree - I've heard one have a coke can! The tree is appalingly unsymtrical, the finish is crap and there are rivets and lumps all over.

The flocking is made from the inside of horse rugs, bits of excess thread and all.

The outside looks ok, if cheap but the panels are almost exclusively attatched squint.

Beleive me, I know. Iv'e taken a couple to peices.

It's only redeeming feature (and probably it's most dangerous feature for the unknowledge when it comes to saddles) is the fact they often fit quite well and suit a lot of back, so they often look ok once on.

If they were just made of better materials and better workmanship they'd be great little saddles :(

It's be well worth investing in a DECENT adjustable saddle now - they are high quality and will fit her for a long time to come. And nice enough to show in too, so no need to buy another one later. And as it's her first saddle she HAS to be comfortable.

I'd got for the Throwogood T6 personally. Very high quality saddle, adjustable gullet. Well designed and fits most horses well. And the T6 look and feel like real leather (really, honestly they do!) The T4 is a bit cheaper but looks it with the more 'synthetic-y' leather ish flaps and the synthetic suede seat. A new T6 will cost about #400-450 new. If you go for second hand then make sure it's the newer model with changable gullet - the older T4 and T6 don't have it. It's quite likely to fit her for the rest of her life so a good investment.

A wintec cob saddle is also an ok saddle, though the tree is often too curved at very wide fittings (XXXwide etc) and the panels come up VERY long - 17" saddle has panel lengths the same as an 18" thorowgood. Very comfortable saddle and a good fit on some horses but they're not great on VERY flat, wide short backed horses.

I wouldn't touch a cheap saddle on a youngster for riding, its just not worth the risk.
Its ok to use one to let them get used to a saddle on their backs, hell just about anything will do for that providing it fits reasonably well.

But once you're in the saddle, its vital its a good fit with a youngster and of course they change shape so an adjustable one works really well.

I've 2 youngsters and am a big thorogood fan, my two that are ridden now are both in thorogoods but they are the older model that doesn't adjust.

I'm gonna buy the T6, its really smart, easy to take care of and I think a decent price for a quality saddle thats adjustable.
I dont like the wintecs, I find they only fit certain horses, but I've yet to see a T6 not fit a horse, they are just brilliant x
