Well it may be boxing day but i've officially been distracted by browsing the web for coloured neds ! I've come across some great studs which i'd never heard of before but which seem to be really getting to grips with breeding decent coloured horses, including overo's, dilute's etc.

Thought i'd pop the details of this one up to see what people think of him. I'm not actually in the market to breed from my mare atm (bit of a custody issue.lol) but i'm going to do 5months work experience at a coloured WB stud in Germany this Summer - hence the latest research in all the excitement about this !

So what do you reckon?

Xx

He's a lovely boy- I speak to his owner on another forum. He throws some very nice babies too- and he has no samber blood. I'm sure that he's part ASB.

He's a pretty colour though Boss...

Ooh, yes. Cause colour is the most important thing.

To be fair, he does have a good jump and a pretty trot.

I would like him to have more presence, but I thought he looked straightforward in his work. Therefore temperment does not seem to be a problem & his offspring dont look too bad. I have seen worse coloured & solid coloured stallions then him.

Fair do's.

He seemed like a nice enough type to me, not something i'd use myself but a nice enough lad.

As i say, i've been busy browsing around and came across so many stallions the other day thought i'd post one's details up.

I understand that there has been this massive rush to inject colour into everything as a 'fashion statement' and as a result there has been a lot of crap around, and also a fairly limited gene pool. However i do believe that this is changing, a lot of this owed to coloured horse breeders who have been concentrating on colour for a while now, and who have carefully selected in order to prevent compromise on the quality and type front.

Ah can't count on the colour for this one, he's a single dilute so only a 50/50 chance of inheriting the dilute and likewise with the tobiano. Make that 25% chance of a Tobiano single dilute like him out of a ch, black or bay/brown mare.

Colour is nice but a sound individual capable of a long active healthy life should be the goal and a stallion should be chosen to compliment and improve on the mare. I always look at it as if he has colour = possible bonus.
