what do you think of your riding?

im always the person used as a guinea pig! if someone has a problem, 'get sophie she'll get on it!' im not actually that brave i nearly passed out before i did XC for the first time! im good at staying on! i'd say my riding is average, i would lOVE to do dressage but i dont think id be patient enough, i'll have a go at riding any horse, so if you need a wild thing backed let me know!!!!

My riding is basic...

Am happy hacking and small jumps (and I mean <2ft 3!)

My flat work leads a lot to be desired but we have lessons and I know I have improved a lot. I have only been around horses for just over 2 years and not many formal lessons so I am happy with my lot. i have no disillusions of amounting to anything and no desire to either.
Bert and I have fun and that is why I ride.

Im like a few on here that will get on anything, I tend to be quite relaxed when riding and that seems to pass onto the horse that im riding . I tend to ride ponies and smaller horses better , ponies being that I also was the guinea pig at my local riding school and also I am not the tallest of people so me and bigger strided horses dont get on so well, although If some one wants me to ride , yeah Im game .

I like the more buzzier type horses as they tend to work better for me, although saying that I can get a good auld plodder to work nicely . Also dont mind taking lessons as no one is perfect .

I'm a bit cr*p really but I blame it on the fact that I don't ride very much!

I think I'm a better rider hunting than in competitions, but thats probably due to the fact I have been lucky and all my ponies and horses and been cracking hunters!!!

I'm generally quite happy with my riding though - I'm not the type to have huge ambitions so I'm just happy if my horse is happy doing what ever we are doing.

erm its ok, tbh i would say i was a bit hard on myself at times but i dont think im a great rider, i havent experienced riding many different horses either which i thin gives me more of a limit

im just crap full stop, but then ive only sat on a horse about 5 times in the last 17 years. one of the other liveries has said i can ride her horse which i might take her up on and have some lessons on him ready for when i do buy my own again.

i wouldnt say i was expert by any means
been riding for about 14 years

ive brought my own and other youngsters on and also been payed to sort out peoples problem horses over the last 7 years.

brought my own 5yo on to medium dress(bought her when i was 12yrs old). i also have some classical lessons doing GP movements on stallions which i really enjoy, i have tremendous respect for the horses!

i wouldnt say i was the most confident rider (more so now im working rather than having a uni loan so i worry what would happen if i really injured myself and couldnt work lol!)

but i am quiet but quite persistant!

i love riding fizzy horses and respond to them and ride as quietly as possible but firmly and they do respond really well.

i also like the challange of a lazy horse or stubbern one though!my last ned like this i managed to get riding into an outline-the owner has had her for about 10years and never seen her do trot for more than a few mins-i was VERY pink by the time id finished working her as she is the most stubbern horse ive ever sat on i think!)

i get a huge buzz out of getting a nice tune out of a 'problem' horse.
i love getting a horse to switch onto you and sparkle!its part of the attraction of riding i think.

i am quite critical of myself but i think you have to be in order to improve.
my mare threw me onto a concrete base in a sand school once and it really messed up my position as i went quite uneven so a really concentrating on that for a while.
i also tend to blame myself first horse second!

but im not an expert and there are horses i have said no to riding (my own mare is very hot but riding your own horse is different to someone elses nutter!)

so id say i know my limits, if i think a horse is dangerous and needs professional help i say so.

ive had two great teachers though-one is my trainer and the other is my ISH-she is the least forgiving horse but you KNOW when you get it right!

i love riding and i love a challenege. im not the best or the tidest but with plently of lessons i enjoy it so much more.

iv broken in a few from scratch and brought on a few, and had a few problemed horse, not because i think im good at it, iv just always be given them. as iv got older and with the last problemed horse making me lose my confidence i feel like my riding has taken a turn for the worst.

when i find another horse i hope its a true school master i can just relax and work on my riding instead of thinking about hitting the deck!

I'm surprised how many people are so critical of their own riding, most of us seem to regard ourselves as average, but is that average at the level you compete, average as in not awful but room for improvement, or average overall accounting for most riders? We are a critical bunch!

I think it is open to interpretation, people have different goals, so therefore someone could consider a good rider to be someone that has achieved our own personal goal, which may be something very everyday for another person, so therefore would have another "marker" to judge what was a good rider.

So someone competitive at Dressage may have goals to get to X level, and consider those there to be good riders, but others may consider someone who can canter a 20m circle a good rider as that is their own personal "ambition". DOes that make sense?!!

I saw some photos of myself riding my new pony yesterday (taken by OH on his phone) and I was shocked at how bad I looked. My feet stick out at right angles!
