The vet came out on Tuesday as Liri had a really runny nose, and her breathing isn't right, very dry cough and sounds like she gasps for breathe every now and then. They are treating it as strangles and have taken swabs. I've been reading up on strangles, and one of the main thing is a high temperature which she didn't have, and swollen glands which were normal as well. She seems fine grazing, but struggles to eat her tea, even walking away and leaving it, which is not normal as Liri is ruled by her stomach. Her nose is clear now, but this cough is really worrying. She used to get choke, but since I've drowned her tea in water, she hasn't had that for a year now. Anyone got any ideas as to what this could be????

Good point AmyMay Perhaps as she is ruled by her stomach maybe she has ingested something and it is stuck. My cat did that once and ended up drooling and did a harsh cough every few minutes as if trying to clear his throat. Plus he wouldn't eat which was very unlike him.

Hope your ponio is better soon

maybe try putting her feed in a manger that hooks onto the door maybe it will be easier. Could be early strangles & the lump hasnt come up yet?? My old horse had it & the lump came about 3 days after the runny nose.
