Not in a position to buy just yet but am "practicing" looking at adverts & have picked these out as possibly suitable. Not going to enquire as am not ready yet but wanted some opinions.

I'm 23 & about 5'5" & have been riding since i was 7. however due to being at uni i have not ridden much over the last 4.5 years & my confidence has dwindled as a result. I have been ill over the last year too which has also not done my confidence a lot of good. I am after a horse that will look after me. it must hack safely alone & in company & be good on the ground. i just want something to build my confidence back. i would like to do small riding club shows, a bit of novice jumping & showing but the horse must not be a world beater as it would be wasted on me!

so what do you think of these & what are your opinions on their prices?

also the first horse is sold by a dealer abbey glenn stables. they look to have a few nice cobs so i might look there when i am finally in a position to buy. has anyone had any good/ bad experience with them?

thanks

Sally

To be honest none of them from your description of your riding and nervousness at the moment. IMO they are too young, you would be better looking at something a bit older, been there done it etc., :) In your siggi are the two riders you?

From the adverts I'd probably say not the first one, second one looks nice and third one might be worth a look.

Difficult to tell from the ads though. I advertised my last mare as a safe confidence giving ride which I genuinely thought she was. One person that came to try her was petrified and got off out on a hack because she was too sharp in her opinion. Everyone that knew her couldn't believe it, she was the most laid back horse going. Just goes to show that one person's definition of confidence giving isn't someone elses.

With horse hunting you just need to ring up about lots and take an experienced friend with you when you go to try them, you just can't tell without seeing them.

I would also so no to all as someone said they are too young. problem with young horses is that while they maybe perfectly behaved for someone with experience they soon pick up on tiny things and it turns into big problems

Especially no to 1st and 4th 1st one say no beginners and in reality that is what you are. 4th is a TB and while there are exceptions TB are not for novice riders especially a young one

Go for something at least 9 preferably 10 that has been there and got the tshirt

Just looking at the pics... The first has the best conformation. The second and third look like 'cut'n'shut' jobs to me IMO. Front endsdon't match the back ends. both also have very upright hinds... there ae MUCH nicer horses out there.

When you do start looking, take someone experienced with you. you'll be pleasedyou did in th long run.

I agree with CBfan

take someone with you

Dont be put off by breeds if the person is honest about the horse. Yes TBs can be shap but cross breeds tend to be level headed. Cobs can be just as wizzy in my experience.

I always say trust your gut feeling

hmm yes both pictures are me. i have done a lot of riding in the past, just out of touch with it at the moment & am not sure what i will still be able to remember. also am just less ambitious than i used to be in terms of riding. i already have someone lined up to come with me though! no way am i trusting my own opinion on this one!

I think nos one and two are too young, though will be lovely horses in the future. No 2 would be fine for just hacking, but needs schooling for everything else - ie if you wanted to compete. Would you be able/confident to do that? No 3 was lovely. A real honest good type that you would be able to do everything with when you were ready. So what if the conformation isn't spot on at that price (and not easy to see from the angle anyway..). We bought a 13.2 version of that as a plod for my son, and it has won absolutely everything at PC this year, even 4th at the ponies uk the NW champs in WH, as none of the correct conformation show ponies would go round the course! Handsome is as handsome does...

get some lessons and get ur self back on track as u will be anoyed if u buy something to suit u now but in six months when u are bk to ur old self u mght want more of a challange
