Lovely ex race horse in need of a home, 18/19yrs young, in very light work at the moment, he is happy to laze around the field or go out on hacks, but he is still capable of harder work. He is sensible on roads and would make a nice horse for a confident rider. Now for the bad bit unfortunately Bracken has cancer which is not causing him any problems at the moment. If there is anyone out there who could give this horse a lovely home pref local to lincs notts he has a lot of life left in him please contact me. Due to these problems he is going free of charge but home must be inspected and we would not like him sold on as we would like to visit him occasionally. call Debbie on 07894703492

"Passing the buck" springs to mind, although she is trying to find a home, but think if she can't keep it in a retirement situation would be kinder to pts

He might have another 5 years in a quiet happy hacking home or as companion.I wouldnt have him pts unless he was in pain or suffering.Perhaps they cant afford to keep him but want him to have some quality time elsewhere.

I don't think it is fair having him up for sale imo. His cancer is not causing him any problems 'at the moment' part of me feels they are selling to save on vet bills. Can't really see the horse ending up in a decent home, hope I am wrong though.

Ok, I'll put it another way, if it was my horse and had been told it had cancer, I wouldn't want to be giving it away to any body. I would be keeping it till its time was up and not trying to pass the buck, but then i think i'm a responsible owner.

Whoops that wasnt aimed at you just trying to look at the advert from another perspective.I would be the same couldnt sell a horse with problems .Couldnt pts either if he wasnt suffering.Just had a year of problems with mine .

I don't have any respect for people who don't either keep the horse themselves, have it PTS when it needs it, or sell/loan it on with a good chance at a decent future.
Sadly, although the advert does at least seem honest, I doubt how many decent futures await an older horse with cancer.
I hope I'm wrong.

I see this advert the other day and hoped some kind hearted person would take it on. Fingers crossed for the horse. I know if i had the cash i would happily take him.

Dont know how the owner could get rid of a horse with cancer though but nothing surprises me as i was offered a cob with cancer on her lip for £150 a few yrs back now and she ended up being passed about then ended up somewhere nice but had to be pts in the end. Such a shame as she was nice as a companion pony.

Find it very sad that someone would do this to the horse.Esp if horse has given them yrs of work(don't know if it has)
Hope horse finds a nice home for remainder of life it has left.

I think it's wrong. IMO if they can't be bothered to let it see out it's final days with them then they should do the decent thing and PTS. That way there is no danger of the horse being passed around / not receiving correct treatment / going through a sale ring. Sorry, but I think they're way out of line. BTW - why did OP include the persons mobile number??

I suppose people could say the same about me with Ty really. Unfortunately not everyone has the land or the money to keep a horse when it's not capable of what they want to do!

That said, I personally would have the horse put to sleep if it was going to get bad soon.....

It sounds like those people need to make a hard decision in the near future, but cant be bothered and would rather palm the horse off onto someone else instead.

[/ QUOTE ] My sentiments exactly, why can't people like this get some bottle and have the poor old chap quietly and humanely PTS. AArrrrghhh!

i certainly wouldn't tar you with the same brush as these people. Ty isn't on borrowed time for a start.

How are people judging why the horse is being 'sold' if they haven't put a reason down? What if they're emigrating? Owners ill health? etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

well they aren't emigrating as they wish 'to visit occasionally'
to be fair it's kind of hard not to be judgemental with this type of thing.
