my friend and i went to look at a gorgeous sec a mare, possibly for her daughter to ride. pony seems suitable in everyway, but has previously suffered with severe laminitis, currently shows no sign of lameness, and is correct weight etc. she has very long coat though?!! owner is offering her free to a good home due to personal difficulties.

opinions please.

she might have cushings? laminitis and a long coat are symptoms. how old is the pony?
i wouldn't let laminitis put me off a pony if it's perfect in every other way. might be worth while getting a vet to give the pony a health check tho.

Could it be cushings if she's previously had laminitus?
We have a pony with a very long coat at the mo.
Vet is adament its not cushings. She is very cute! Like a huge cuddly teddy bear but will be clipping her soon! Think it may be age!

Personally I'd ask to speak to their vet so you know from a professional point of view.
Obviously laminitics that are managed carefully lead perfectly normal lives but get some more history before jumping in.
