he has had it most of the winter but hasnt been lame there is a slight swelling above on his fetlock which has only come up today could it be due to the lump? he isnt lame but just wondered what it could be ?

Without having a good prod and a poke it is really tough to say! I would *guess* the older mark (purple arrow) is a bit of scar tissue from an injury caused by a thorn or perhaps an over-reach from one of his friends whilst playing? The lump on the fetlock I would suggest is unrelated and may have been caused by more playing with an over exuberant friend? Just a guess though I'm afraid

The fetlock swelling could be an articular windgall.

Is the lump soft or hard? It looks hard. It could be a keratosis, a localised reaction to a penetration injury or an injury of some kind. It could be a type of sarcoid.

Its good that the horse isnt lame, but I would be inclined to get the vet out to be sure.

The swelling could just be (as ali said) due to twisting in the field or something similar just causing fluid accumulation!
No sure about the lump, my guess would be something like an old scar, or possible sarcoid! (keep an eye out for others!)

Id get vet out to check! better safe than sorry
