What do YOU think?

I personally do not think I could get on a horse without my hat on for I would not be here today if it was not for my hat. A hat that I had had only 2 weeks was cracked in two. I suffered concusion and lots of bruises but I am here today because I was wearing my hat. New one has been bought.

Mrs M I think you are the perfect person to advocate wearing a hat, after all without it, OMG it doesn't bear thinking about!!!!

there are some people on my yard that ride without hats - when i asked why the answers were
1) It will ruin my hair
2) I havent got one
One rides a 17hh TB hatless.
Needless to say they are not the brains of britain yet its me that gets 'frowned upon' when i say they should wear one?! I trust both my neds implicitly they are good as gold however i always wear my hat you just never know.
I also see lots of people who wear hats but with the chin strap unfastened. Whats the point?!?!
Good to see that there are so many people on here with sense and hopefully us uncool hat wearers are in the majority!

I have an aunt who worked in the ICU in the main brain injury ward in ireland, they get all the most serious cases transfered there... some of the storys she tells about riding injurys are tragic and many have been very preventable if a hard hat had been used, she told me plenty before i was allowed to take up horse riding

To be honest i consider a hat a completely nessecary part of horse riding, regardless of what horse your riding..
At the end of the day horses are large not always predictable animals with their own minds and even the steadiest horse can slip or trip
We only get one head and one life...

but at the end of the day it is personal choice and almost everyone thinks at some point that would never happen to me

QR I'm of the generation that only wore a hat "for best". Since coming back to riding I have worn a hat all the time. What brought it home to me was my daughter falling on our excellent peaty fen soil. Nice giving ground with no stones - apart from the one stone in seven acres that she landed head first on and put a hole in her hat
