what do you tow with

i have an ifor 51o and looking for a new 4 x4 to tow with but don't know were to start so what do you tow with and why

Hi there, I have a Hyundai Terracan 2.9TDi which tows 2.8 metric tons..... and when not towing does about 32 mpg super urban.... I also looked at a Kia Sorrento which does about the same and my equine dentist uses it for towing and she says it is great....

good luck with your search...

The comment I asume was because Range Rovers and Land Rovers are reknowned for going wrong and being expensive therefore to maintain. That said parts are inexpensive and they are very popular so it's from a large ownership base that the 'problems' arise.

Errrrmmmm............no.

I made the comment because that is what I tow with and at 15 years old it is still going strong:)

Defender :D
Seen them pull out an arctic that was fully loaded and stuck in the mud. Parts are dead easy to get hold of and as they are like a big mechano kit if you have a bit of knowledge they can be repaired on the drive.

I presumed it was a misquote of pedantic's comment about nothing with "rover" in the name

Ditto. I love my Defender.

I tow with a Ford Ranger pick up, it's ok but as there is a fair bit of overhang from the back axle, I find it quite bouncy, the best wagon I towed with was a Defender, it was GREAT!!!

N reg 2.8 td shogun lwb. Love it. Every inch of it.

For the record, a ford maverick and a Nissan terrano are the same vehicle ;)

SNAP!! Thats what I have I call it my Shabby Chic Shogun, mine is also a N Reg and it is brilliant. My other half keeps wanting to change it but I refuse, I love it, it tows my IW 510 and my cob like a dream.

Toyota - Land cruiser amazon - Tows like a dream!!! Never gets stuck anywhere even with two horses and a field which resembles a mud bath!!

Mum tows our Ifor 505 with both our 15.2hh chunky boys in, with an auto Jeep Cherokee.

It's fab to tow with and isn't new and pretty so it doesn't matter how muddied up it gets. We can just throw everything in it after hunting etc.

It is very thirsty though and you can watch the fuel gauge move when you're towing! We only use it for towing for that reason.

An auto is definitely the biggest preference here, much easier and gives the horses a smoother ride! :)

HOgged cob- mine is called tinks as in tinkerbelle the tank!! Luckily my OH adores her- I'd like a lorry but we can't justify a 4x4, normal car AND lorry, and he won't sell, so tinks is a lifer here!!

Gina geo- the other issue is that if you need to take a test to tow bigger trailers as in this case if the driver took license post 97 then if this test is sat in an auto, the driver can then only tow with auto!

Smoother certainly I agree though not convinced in mud pulling out power and serious hills- I like my engine braking for the serious slopes we have :)

Badgerdog- there aren't many things I know about but my trailer/ towing licence and 4x4 classifications is one of them! Lovely to be agreed with too :)

3 litre isuzu trooper, and i love it, Again like others pulls 2 big horses and my new Ifor very well, getsw me through where ever we need to go and is just so cool, i have the citation so lots of gadgets for me.

I currently tow with a 2004 range rover 3ltr D however I find it a bit gutless up the hills pulling a 510 with two big horses in so I am getting a new 3.6 2007 range
rover this weekend, wouldn't look at anything else.

we hve L200`s at work and have gone through 3 engines in 6 months and they are all serviced etc reg as per manuf recomendations by misubushi
