Hey, I'm looking into buying a single trailer for my pony, as I currently borrow an ifor 403 just now but want to get my own. Looking at either the new Ifor 403 or the single Cheval Liberte 1000. Just wondering what those of you with singles tow yours with? and also what trailer do you have?

Thanks
x

When I had a IW single trailer I towed with a Ford Mondeo Diesel Estate, but my girl was only 15.1hh and not very heavy.

I have noticed someone local towing their IW401 with a Subaru Outback

When I bought a larger horse I swapped for a IW510 with a Mits Shogun Sport.

Ive got a Rice one - it's supposed to be two horse but my horse is a small 15.1 and she takes up most of the room... I tow with a Nissan Terrano II. When I was just towing the pony (ickle 11.2) the Renault Scenic MPV (old style so heavier than the new ones) towed it (just) within the legal limit :)

Great, thanks everyone. I will be planning to tow with a rav 4 2.0l, which is what we currently tow with fine. My next dilemma is whether or not to choose the ifor 403( or second hand ifor 401), or the cheval liberte 1000! Pony is 450kg max

I would reccommend the cheval, as it is lighter than the ifor williams, and is far more sturdy as trailers go. We've had the trailer for 6 months now and are very pleased with it. It always stands out from all of the ifor williams trailers.

Please buy a standard trailer, and not a single one, especially the Rice single ones - they are horrid dark things, how any horse goes into them i will never no :(

It would be worth having the extra space :)

'they are horrid dark things' - sorry but I totally disagree, the IW401 are 3/4 width of the IW505 and every horse I have travelled has loved it, loads of room and very airy!!

I even know people with difficult loaders / bad travellers that have swapped into the IW / Cheval 'single' trailers....

In regards to the 'old fashioned' rice single trailers - I do agree they were not very appealing for a larger horse but I suppose ok for a smaller pony.

I've got the cheval 1000xl and its anything but dark and gloomy in fact its very light and airy has loads of room (I can tack up my 15.3hh in it easily) and he has more room than he ever had in one stall of my double trailer. IMO the cheval beats the ifor hands down for price and stability with towing. I tow with a Ford Kuga 2 litre diesel. This means I am also within the 3.5 tonne combined weight limit and thus can tow on my car licence.

Excellent! I think I'm being drawn into the cheval 1000's. I like the idea of the tack box on the grooms door even though it's an extra. I have to say I saw them a few years ago though and I thought they looked 'cheap'. They seem to have improved alot now though and evryone I've spoken to can't rate them highly enough. I've always wondered why they have the slanted back though?
