What do you use to mark your rugs

I've recently purchased a few real bargains (turnouts for ponies £13.50!!)
In various sizes which I can see come winter will be irritating!
Also mine and daughters horses have several of the same rugs and it's not obvious on a cold dark morning which is which.
You see people paint postcodes etc as security/ theft deterrent and I wondered what you would use that will withstand the weather through winter?
Would thick marker pen do it or do you need some kind of paint?

Have used these, does fade over time but good for dark coloured rugs.

Bog standard permanent marker does tend to stay if it shows up well against colour of rug. I have a light blue one which has been through the wash a few times and name is still on it

At a previous yard where some rugs were stolen off some horses backs overnight. the very angry yard owner's daughter painted 'This rug is STOLEN' in large block capitals with white gloss paint on all her outdoor rugs/ Funnily enough no more rugs were stolen.

I'm currently using Humbrol paint in silver, but when that's run out I'm tempted to try Tippex - makes a mess and doesn't come off anything easily, or one of those car touch up pens,

I use a black marker pen, but also those plastic fobs they sell at shoe repairers to mark your keys. They come on a split ring so attach to buckles easily. They won't help if the rug is stolen, but if you just want to differentiate sizes they work well. You can either write the size on the strip of paper inside or use different colours for different sizes.

Actually like this idea. The horses are at home on a working farm with no public access so unlikely to be stolen "touchwood"

I've just used a chunky permanent marker with no problems

I use tippex- usually on the inside at the bottom of the shoulder area so it isn't touching the horse. Not so good for theft but excellent for identifying which horse it belongs to.

At the livery yard where I work they have like key tags with the name on the horse on attached to the front buckles. Works well for us when new ruggs arrive.
