What do you use when your horse has thrush ?

Our farrier said to use a bit of bleach in cold water and scrub the hooves with it once a day for a few days. Worked really well (was mild thrush), nice and cheap too. Bleach kills all bacteria so makes sense really.

Another vote for Red Horse foot products.
Also - Stockholm Tar, it looks like black treacle and is applied with no. 1 daughter's old art-work trowels. They are tiny things but you can just slap it on. It's sticky, revolting stuff, but I was amazed at how well it has worked.

I'll report back on how I get on with the oils, and the Field Paste.
I've tried foot rot spray, various other products, the stuff you syringe in and it bubbles up (?), athletes foot spray....
My lad was unhandled for his first two years, and came to me with terrible thrush - and i think it's been underlying for his whole life. Now the gloves are off.
My farrier recommended Thrush Buster, a US product, but it is extremely expensive - on the flip side it's supposed to be fab. Hopefully that will come to the UK one day without a £20 p and p charge !

The issue with bleach is that it damages all cells it comes in contact with the good and the bad.
So all bleach type products need using with caution.

Yep it was used very carefully - only a tiny bit diluted in a lot of water, and used once a day for about 3 days. Didn't cause any other problem and cleared the thrush quickly.

Athletes foot spray! After all, thrush is a fungal infection, as is athletes foot. Also heard baby powder is good for keeping the frogs dry.

Try Tea Tree Oil. This kills both bacteria and fungi.

A £1.99 Bottle of Milton spray from Tesco, cleared it up within a week

I know someone who used to douse it in toothpaste, seemed to work.
Another person who used Canesten Thrush Tablets and cream, that cleared it up in a jiffy.
I use Hydrogen Peroxide onto then frog etc to kill the bacteria then let the feet dry overnight. Always wear gloves for that method though!
