I've lived in wellies for years. I always have sore feet. This summer I gave in and have been wearing trainers- Not previously done what ever the weather as I can't stand getting bits in my shoes, but its been so warm i had too.
I just wash them constantly so its worked well, also my feet no longer hurt.
put the wellies back on yesterday in the rain and instantly achy sore feet. They were new wellies earlier this year. they feel slighty tight when i first put them on but fine after a minute. They don't feel uncomfortable as such but i can't face the thought of another winter in them for hours a time.
The trainers are obviously not even slightly water/mud proof.
They will be my most worn footware- any suggestions?

I am wearing mountain horse short boots atm. They're not 100% waterproof like wellies would be but it's a decent compromise as they are comfy and have ankle support.

Could you compromise with some long yard boots? The lace up ones would be more stable on your feet, some of the pull on ones aren't much better than wellies for having proper foot support in the sole ime

I wear leather waterproof walking boots
They work best in winter with jeans with skinny type legs if there’s too much fabric at the base they get muddy .
I have a sheepskin insole and my feet are always warm .
I keep a pair of wellies in the tack room for going into deep mud .
Downsides are you have to clean them now and again and use a product to keep them waterproof.
I did have a pair of dubarry clares they where warm but difficult to get on they needed a lot of care to stay waterproof and expensive to buy but they did last years as do the walking boots .

Currently wellies but I have the problem of my socks falling off in them and then so get sore ankles so following this with interest. I also wear trainers sometimes but that won’t be practical in the winter.

I have this with my Aigle's - I have to wear long socks otherwise they are pulled down.

I love my Aigle Parcours - cheap wellies hurt my feet but not these

Merry boots.I personally find them very comfortable, water proof, good sole for walking on muddy surfaces and warm.I have even done a short ride in them.On top of which they come in a wide variety of colours.

Walking boots in winter. Mountain warehouse £75. Rhinegold Georgia three quarter boots if not horrendously wet and muddy. But I’ve worn trainers all summer too and am going to miss them! There are waterproof trail trainers. I’m tempted to try and get some.

I wear trainers when the weather has been really dry like this summer. For the rest of the time I wear ariat wexford ankle boots - they are totally waterproof. I only put my wellies on if I have to go into deep mud which is rare.

Insoles make a huge difference
I have a pair of mountain horse boots which look a bit like hiking boots and are waterproof and comfortable, I got them 2nd hand off ebay as they would be expensive enough new - but even though they are ankle height I wouldn't wear them in nthe worst of winter, so weliies with insoles and long socks it is

Yes i'm a trainers wearer too.

I wore wellies for the first time this morning and I'd forgotten how horrible they are.

I managed last winter in country boots but had issues with the insoles coming loose and struggling to get them off. I'm going to have a look in go outdoors this weekend and see what boots I can get for the winter.

My friend has a lovely pair of yard boots which she raves about. They are either the Ariat telluride 2's or the skyline mid - definitely ariat and definitely lace up. Sorry that's not much help.

I loved Aigle and found them comfortable but I make holes in the heel too fast.
Those of you who's socks fall down, do you wear long socks? I have to wear knee lenth socks with wellies or yes, they just fall down and that's awful.

New wellies were ££ so I'm really gutted to have this problem, even worse than ever. They are close fitting, I did try thick insoles but they made them too tight. I could try some thinner ones.

I'm going to do some googling of the above suggestions.

Old Toggi canyons in winter or ariat tellurides in warmer weather. Both waterproof and lovely thick soles. Ariats in particular are really comfortable but i should have gone down half a size when i bought them.

These look good and I find my ariat riding boots really comfortable. I wonder about lacing them up every time i want to pop outside and do something though. Also I was always told that the reason i wrecked my leather riding boots was that I mucked out in them and the wee rots leather?

I'm awful 🙈 whatever is closest the door!

Slippers, crocs, riding boots, wellies...walking shoes less so as they involve too much effort with laces
I'd be the same but having a shoe cerrying labrador there is never an actual pair of anything other than wellies at the door! 🤣 Apparemtly he's not a fan of the new wellies either!

I tried muck boot wellies ..sore feet!!

Went back to my percussion wellies.. wore them all last winter including dog walking, so miles each day plus horses chores, feet not sore once ...and dry 😁

Errr, anchor the socks over the bottom end of your breeches / jeans / whatever?
I find the cloth lining of my Ariat Glaciers and Grasmeres worse for pulling socks off than wellies!
Best for that is leather lined hunting boots, also warm, but not for yard work.

I wear whatever trainers that I have left work in, which I will have previously sworn won't end up as yard shoes, then I do this until they look horrid and then introduce the backup pair I will have bought in the meantime to also definitely not be yard shoes... rinse and repeat.

I wear Altra Lone Peak for about 7-8 months of the year (and you know you can get gaiters for trainers which would keep bedding etc out) and BeLenka Arctic Edge with thicker insoles in cold weather. My neoprene lined barely worn Aigles will be for sale (41) if anyone's interested 😁.

Fairfax and Favor Boudiccas. I've had ariat ankle boots before but they don't tend to last more than a year. My Boudiccas are now coming into their 4th year and am only just considering getting a new pair, which TBH I don't urgently need it's more an idle consideration.

Couple of things, if you need fully waterproof along the elastic sections you need to spray them or put renapur over the elastic. Mine cope fine without this but I'm not regularly walking through water or very deep mud.

Keep waterproof with Renapur every now and then. Honestly the stuff is marvelous.

Yes they are very expensive as yard boots, but I've ridden in them too with chaps, can drive and do everything else in them, they are shearling lined so very warm and the soles are very comfortable once you've moulded them to your feet. Thier soles for gip etc are also fantastic.

I had a pair years ago and the sole detached from the base, F&F requested them back the sent me a brand new pair. Up until then I'd treated the first pair like princesses. As the second lot were 'free' I've been much less careful yet they are still going strong now and no signs of any more sole detachment.

I imagine by now I'd have been through two or three pairs of ariat trainers or ankle boots, so actually I've saved money with the Boudiccas even though they are gasp makingly expensive for yard boots, it is what they are designed for and excel at.

If my feet go in a Welly or anything else now they protest 🙈

Stout leather walking boots tall enough to just cover ankle bone, and jean hem pulled down over top edge of boot to prevent hay/etc getting inside.

I used to wear crocs unless it was wet. But I’ve just moved yard and there isn’t a single other croc wearer so I’m wearing Jod boots
