What does concours classes mean?

Hors concours is literally translated as "out of the competition".

Oxford dictionary defines it as "engaged in a contest but not competing for a prize".

As in hors concours?

I know it as not competing, just going round for expirience, but I'm sure someone will give you a better definition?

This ^^

Sometimes folk want to get out at lower levels and are maybe over qualified for the class so they run HC for the outing.

Yep, think "Dizzy Socks" is about right.

My understanding is that the competitor takes part but their score isn't included in the overall running. So it would be say an inexperienced horse who's rider just wants it to take part for the experience. At one show I went to it said that people could compete "hors concours" at the judges discretion.
