what does everyone wash their rugs/numnahs in?

A washing machine ;-) Seriously I just use the laundry powder we use for our own clothing (currently a huge tub of Equine rugwash powder!!) I am assuming you are talking about cotton numnahs and no sheepskin though! Rugs - stable I send off to a laundry company, turnouts I don't wash, I find they last MUCH longer if they are just hosed off and mud removed from the outside, then I turn over and spray with a antibac/viricidal spray and hand up ready for winter again, I have a coupld of turnouts in their 8th winter now, still as good as new!

Thanks :-) I washed a few coolers and numnahs once with normal washing powder and he came up with a few lumps on his back so maybe he would be OK with some non biological stuff!

I use an eco non bio powder for stable rugs and coolers and Nuumed wash for under rugs/liners/hoods/boots/bandages etc

I have a pony with super reactive skin but he seems fine with this

Washing machine & whatever liquid I've got in cupboard. Very lightweight turnouts in nikwax stuff. Sheepskin stuff coated in conditioner & done on cold, wool wash. I use medium turnouts with liners & in spring scrub the inside & outside with yard brush & hose, liners are washed at home regularly.

Or would you need to add any detergent? As I can't imagine just water getting grease off.

I'm wondering if baby wipes would be any good for just the inside? Anyone tried it?
I only use water on the inside of mine,I've got a really good yard brush which is very light & the heads short in length but the bristles are really long, running the hose on the rug while scrubbing with the brush de-greases them amazingly well.

Fairy non bio washing powder, expensive but I have never had a horse react to it and I have chronic urticaria and everything makes me itch but fairy non bio powder is the only thing I can use too. Made the mistake of using the fairy non bio liquid tabs once and I spent two weeks in sheer agony.

My second washing machine (in the shed) with whatever biological was on offer. Usually persil or ariel. Wool wash liquid for wool things.

Use non bio persil in house.

In a washing machine with a standard washing powder and fabric softener. I wash rugs, numnahs, bandages, halters and everything else. I must say that the washing machine's filter has to be cleaned after every wash. If you have a standard washing machine with a "window" you should probably avoid washing halters and parts of equipment which contains metal pieces, as it could damage the glass.
