What does IRE stand for in a passport?

Hi,
Forgive me for the maybe stupid question but does anyone know what IRE means in a horses' passport. ISH, Irish Draft etc I know what they are, but IRE is just a country code for Ireland?? The Sire of the pony just has numbers and IRE, no breed, can anyone shed any light? He's classed as a part bred as the dam is New Forest I'm just curious what else he has in him! Googling the sire's name doesn't help either as it doesn't come up with anything!

Used on TB passports to mean Ireland. cant see it can possibly mean anything else.

Yeah that's all I can find that racehorses foaled in Ireland in their passport, so if the sire is Romeo (IRE) I guess I can assume he is an Irish TB?

Yep, it will just be telling you that the TB is from Ireland - France would be Romeo (FR) and so on.
