You do two tests under the same judge, on the same day, same horse, same arena....and the higher level scores way better than the lower, warm up test?

In my case, it meant that by the second test I remembered how to ride a center line, and that I was able to keep my horse in the arena! That's always helpful! :o

Had an outing at a small local dressage show - a day of many firsts: first time going out alone (tend to have a helpful friend or two), first time going to this venue (in ages), first time using studs, first time doing a Novice test. It all went pretty easily - nice friendly wee venue with friendly stewards and organisers. We're qualified to go to Lincoln so I'm needing to get out on grass as much as possible. I don't get many opportunities to ride or compete on grass and I did have a lesson a few weeks ago which went really really BAD - so it highlighted the need to get out and do more.

Quick warmup (on warm muggy days it's easy to over egg the pudding with my boy). Went in early, to get P14 out of the way I thought - wobbled on the first centerline but it went drastically wrong when my horse thought the collecting ring would be more suitable and tried to leave the arena at F - he got a boot for that with the outside leg, a mini strop, lept over A, a rather swift circle to get him back on track and picked up the canter again thankyouverymuch and continued on like nothing happened. Overshot A for second centerline (ooops) and was mortified at my poor riding.

Walked back to the lorry trying to psyche myself up for the novice test -- didn't have long to wait so went back to watch the two competitors in front of me and realised that without medium trot established (cos we don't) that I wans't going to beat either of them - but I didn't think we weren't too far off on the other moves - maybe just lacking a bit of polish. However, I did my test, felt rather relaxed and actually pleased to have done it.

Didn't expect to place with the Prelim test (and only barely did - but only cos there weren't many in the class) and the novice test there were only three, so knew I would get a third. But what I didn't expect was a score of 71.6% -- with my first ever 9! There wasn't much between the three novice test scores.

As far as results go - have placed better in bigger classes. But while it may seem like nothing to those that go out and compete alone on a regular basis - to me it was a really good day out. I left feeling pleased that it all went more or less to plan. :)

A 9! Flippin' heck :D What for? Well done! I have never scored a 9 - although I did score a 20 once, but admittedly it was a dressage test performed for the local schoolchildren and 'judged' by them :D :D

A 20! :D I love it! Even Totillas hasn 't had one of THOSE yet!

The nine was for our lovely square halt (though I'd joked that the judge was just glad the test was over so gave us a 9 !) and the last center line preceding the halt was an 8 (and an 8 for our change of leg thru trot earlier in the test - first time we'd done this in a test).

Was over the moon with those scores.

I know my horse CAN medium trot, but one day we might be able to achieve it in the arena!

sounds fab to me well done:D

although you are not allowed to go out alone again because it means we have no lovely pics to look at :P

tee hee - although you just gave me an idea....my hubby has one of these teeeeeny weeeenny video cameras that is like the size of a USB stick thing. I could tape it to my hat and post the Sammy-cam video.

Wow, very impressive. A good halt is always an indication that the horse is truly through and working correctly!!! I think a 9 for a halt is 'worth' more than a 9 for, say, an extension.

LOL I know - he must have been 7 or 8 (no idea, am not very good with kids or ages) and when he handed over the "scoresheet" to me he got a very big kiss on the cheek :D :D

Must admit that between getting a regular battering from my RI, and then a few months back there was a thread on good halts, these have improved.

Last year I was near ecstatic when I got an 8 on one a movement (can't remember what tho) and the year before with a different horse I think the judge meant to write a six or perhaps had something in his eye when we got an 8 for a trot cross the diagnol (with a mare that typically towed me everywhere).

What does it take then....to get a 10?? Do RC judges ever award them? hmmm one can only dream ;)

LOL!! Did you get his name?? :)

Exactly - does he travel or do we have to flock to him? He could make a fortune free lance judging for us!

I reckon I could get 9s... If the judge forgot to put her specs on and had the test sheet upside down, that is! :D

Well done, you must be very pleased!

LOL, like I said, I just reckoned she was so glad that it was "over" that she was giving it a nine - maybe it was a sympathy nine!

I got one! Riding club dressage, Prelim 1. We got a 10 for our final half 10m circle to centre line and halt! I was almost crying with shock/happiness (ask trendybraincell, she was there!). The judges comment was 'perfect last movement, a joy to watch'. I doubt we'll ever do that again!

How fab is that!! :D I would have had that baby FRAMED!

Well done, you must be thrilled with that % in your novice test :D. I'm very jealous of your 9, too.

Can also sympathise with the medium trot - the best one my horse has ever produced was as he legged it down the other end of the arena after depositing me on my backside .

I know it's wrong, but that made me LOL. What a toad! Yeah, my medium trots tend to come when we're pointed for home on a hack and it's time for his tea!

Very well done indeed :D

Can't wait to get my hoss into a dressage test . We won't do very well, but it will be a hoot :D. She can passage and piaffe beautifully, just a ipty she was only being asked for a tort (any trot, of any sort, I wasn't fussy).

Look forward to the head cam :D :D
